Christmas in July Brings Santa to the Cape May Lighthouse and NASW Aviation Museum

The holiday spirit is arriving early in Cape May County as two popular attractions host festive Christmas in July celebrations on Friday, July 25, giving families the chance to meet Santa Claus, enjoy seasonal activities, and make lasting summer memories.

At the Cape May Lighthouse, Santa will step away from his summer vacation for a special meet-and-greet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitors can take photos with Santa, play family-friendly games, and browse handcrafted goods from regional vendors. The Cape May County Bookmobile will also be on-site, offering activities and reading opportunities for children and families.

Guests can also purchase tickets to climb the historic Cape May Lighthouse, where a climb of 199 steps is rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of Cape May Point and the surrounding coastline.

Just a short drive away, the Naval Air Station Wildwood (NASW) Aviation Museum in Rio Grande will host its own Christmas in July celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event features live acoustic music by Rich Angelucci, free face painting, festive photo opportunities inside the museum's decorated Hangar No. 1, and a special appearance by Santa from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Families are encouraged to embrace the summer-meets-holiday theme by wearing Hawaiian shirts and flip-flops while enjoying the unique combination of aviation history and Christmas cheer. Museum members receive free admission to the special event.

Both celebrations offer a fun opportunity to experience the magic of the holiday season months ahead of December while supporting local attractions and community organizations.

The Christmas in July festivities at NASW are supported in part by funding from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Cape May County Board of County Commissioners through the Cape May County Division of Culture & Heritage.

177th Fighter Wing Announces Weeklong Night Flight Training Over South Jersey

 The skies over South Jersey will be busier than usual over the next two weeks as the 177th Fighter Wing conducts scheduled night-flying training exercises.

The New Jersey Air National Guard unit, based at Atlantic City International Airport in Egg Harbor Township, will fly evening training missions during two separate periods: July 21–23 and July 28–30, 2026. Announcements were made on several of their social media pages

The training is a routine part of maintaining pilot combat readiness, mission capability, and homeland defense preparedness. Night operations allow aircrews to practice flying in low-light conditions and ensure they remain prepared for a wide range of real-world missions.

Residents in Atlantic County and surrounding South Jersey communities, including Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties, may notice increased F-16 Fighting Falcon activity during the evening hours. Aircraft noise is expected during takeoffs, flight maneuvers, and landings, with flights extending later into the night than normal.

Military officials note that pilots follow designated flight paths designed to reduce noise impacts over residential neighborhoods whenever operationally possible.

The 177th Fighter Wing routinely provides advance notice before nighttime training events to help residents understand the source of the increased aircraft activity. While the sound of fighter jets may be more noticeable during the scheduled training windows, the flights are part of planned exercises supporting the unit's ongoing readiness mission.

Cape May Summer Concert Series Welcomes Joan Osborne on July 26

Music fans will have the chance to celebrate one of the most recognizable albums of the 1990s when Joan Osborne brings her Relish Live 30th Anniversary Tour to Cape May Convention Hall this summer.

The special performance is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. as part of the 2026 Cape May Summer Concert Series.

The concert commemorates the 30th anniversary of Osborne's landmark debut album, Relish, a multi-platinum release that blended folk, pop, and rock while introducing audiences to her distinctive songwriting and powerful vocals. The album's breakout hit, "One of Us," became an international success, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helping earn Osborne eight Grammy Award nominations throughout her career.

Concertgoers can expect a live performance celebrating the entire Relish album, bringing many of its beloved songs back to the stage in the intimate setting of Cape May Convention Hall.

The show will be held at Cape May Convention Hall, 714 Beach Avenue, Cape May. Tickets are $60 for reserved floor seating and $50 for reserved riser seating. Tickets are available online through the City of Cape May Box Office, by calling 609-884-9565, or in person at the Convention Hall Box Office. VIP packages that include a meet-and-greet with Joan Osborne are also available.

With one of the defining albums of the 1990s returning to the stage, the concert promises to be a memorable evening for longtime fans and newcomers alike.
