NJ Governor Blocks Shore Brawl Bill
Governor Phil Murphy issued a conditional veto on a bipartisan bill that would criminalize inciting public brawls, citing concerns over potential violations of free speech and assembly rights. The bill, aimed at curbing teen violence at shore locations, passed both legislative chambers without opposition. Murphy recommended changes, including exemptions for face coverings worn for medical, religious, or expressive reasons. Lawmakers are expected to revise and return the bill soon, while two related proposals addressing youth misconduct remain under consideration.
NJ State Police Ramp Up Boat Registration Checks for Summer

As boating season nears, New Jersey State Police are enforcing registration laws for all powerboats. Vessels must be registered and display valid decals, especially if they've been in the state over 180 days or have a New Jersey hailing port. State Police emphasized that failure to comply can lead to serious consequences. Anyone found operating an unregistered vessel will face a summons that includes a mandatory court appearance. In such cases, the voyage will be halted immediately. Registration requires an appointment at a local MVC agency.
New Jersey Turns to Nuclear Power as Wind Projects Falter

New Jersey is shifting its clean energy focus to nuclear power following delays and cancellations in offshore wind projects. Governor Phil Murphy has endorsed expanding the state’s nuclear capacity to meet rising electricity demand, projected to increase by nearly 40% by 2039. The state’s three existing reactors already supply 40% of its electricity and most of its carbon-free energy. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has issued a Request for Information to explore new and advanced nuclear technologies, aiming to ensure long-term grid reliability and affordability.
