Cape May Zoo Celebrates Birth of Rare Male Zebra Foal

A male Grant’s zebra foal was born on May 21 at Cape May County Zoo to parents Lydia and Ziggy—the first male zebra born there in years. Native to central and eastern Africa, Grant’s zebras are a subspecies of the plains zebra. They are known for their stamina and speed, traits that start developing quickly—foals are capable of running within an hour of birth. Their gestation period typically lasts around 13 months. The zoo emphasized the care and commitment of its staff in making this new birth possible. The Cape May County Park and Zoo remain open daily, with zoo hours from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and park grounds open from 7 a.m. until dusk.
Ocean City Residents Unite Against Boardwalk Hotel Proposal

Ocean City residents and community groups are rallying against a proposed seven-story boardwalk hotel planned by developer Eustace Mita at the site of the soon-to-close Wonderland Pier. While the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce has offered conditional support, opposition has intensified, with critics arguing the hotel threatens the city's historic charm, zoning protections, and family-friendly identity. Meanwhile, the opposition continues to grow. The coalition points to the project's potential impact on historic neighborhoods, increased traffic, and long-term risks to the city’s unique atmosphere. With the launch of BigMistake.org, the movement has broadened its outreach, calling on city leaders and the developer to pursue a path that reflects the community's voice.
Fate of West Wildwood Police Force Uncertain After Scathing Review

A state police report recommends West Wildwood consider disbanding its understaffed and disorganized police department. With only four full-time officers, limited resources, and non-compliance with state protocols, the borough is weighing options, including shared services with neighboring towns. Mayor Matt Ksiazek says preserving the force is a priority but action is necessary. The department is currently under interim oversight after its chief retired, and long-term decisions rest with borough officials.
