NJ Voters Head to the Polls in High-Stakes 2025 Gubernatorial Primaries

New Jersey’s 2025 gubernatorial primaries take place Tuesday, with high-profile candidates from both parties vying for a spot on the November ballot. Democrats face a six-way contest featuring prominent elected officials, while Republicans see Jack Ciattarelli leading a five-man race backed by Donald Trump. All 80 state Assembly seats are also on the ballot. Polls close at 8 p.m. ET. The Associated Press will provide results and declare winners only when outcomes are mathematically assured. While New Jersey does not have automatic recounts, candidates may request one if the result is close, though such instances are rare. The countdown begins: after Tuesday’s primary, just 147 days remain until the November general election. You can also follow election results Tuesday night at CapeMayCountyVotes.com.

Butterflies, Birds, and Binoculars: Explore Cape May’s Wildlife Wonders

Cape May, New Jersey, is a globally recognized birdwatching hub, drawing both seasoned birders and nature lovers with its rich biodiversity and pivotal role in bird migration along the Atlantic Flyway. At the heart of this natural spectacle is the Cape May Bird Observatory (CMBO), operated by New Jersey Audubon since 1976. CMBO has been at the forefront of bird research and conservation, conducting extensive long-term monitoring programs. These include the iconic Hawkwatch at Cape May Point, the Avalon Seawatch, the Morning Flight Songbird Count, and the newer Springwatch. These programs collect vital data on bird populations and migration patterns, often yielding staggering numbers. In just one day recently, over 10,500 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers were counted—a national record. That same week, observers recorded a Common Swift, a rare visitor from Eurasia. Last autumn, more than 1.1 million seabirds passed by Avalon Seawatch, marking a record-breaking season.

Residents Rally to Save West Wildwood Police Amid Outsourcing Proposal

West Wildwood residents are pushing back against a recommendation to dissolve the borough’s Police Department in favor of contracting services from a neighboring town. With staffing shortages, rising costs, and public concern over local safety, officials face a difficult decision. While the mayor assured the public that no formal agreement has been made and that discussions are ongoing, the underlying tension reflected how deeply personal and complex the decision has become for West Wildwood residents. The next meeting of the commissioners is scheduled for Thursday, June 19 at 9 a.m. Due to the July 4 holiday, the following meeting will be held on Monday, July 7 at 9 a.m.
