From Snapping Turtles to Tarantulas: Cape May’s Animal Show Delights Families

Cape May Point State Park hosts the “Kids and Critters” animal show every weekend through October, giving children the chance to interact with reptiles, rodents, and other wildlife. Leading the program is naturalist Matt Pelligrine, who created the initiative 26 years ago. His mission has remained the same: to inspire young people to care about animals by giving them direct, personal experiences with them. That approach has proven effective, as children eagerly gather around to see—and touch—animals that might otherwise seem scary or mysterious. Donations are accepted to support animal care.

More Than 100 Young Sailors Set to Race in Wildwood Crest Regatta

On June 26, more than 100 youth sailors will race in the South Jersey Summer Series Regatta on Sunset Lake in Wildwood Crest. Hosted by the Greater Wildwood Yacht Club and organized by the Mid-Atlantic Yacht Racing Association, the event welcomes sailors ages 9 to 18 from clubs across southern New Jersey. The event is part of MAYRA’s mission to support youth sailing and foster a strong racing community across the region. As a nonprofit organization, MAYRA works to provide young sailors with educational opportunities and promote skill development through organized competition. The regatta is not only a chance for participants to showcase their abilities on the water, but also serves as a gathering point for the broader sailing community in South Jersey. Spectators can view the races from the lakeside park.
