Relief Measures Approved for All NJ Ratepayers Facing 20% Electricity Hike

New Jersey's Board of Public Utilities has approved a suite of affordability measures to cushion residents from a 20% hike in electricity rates. These include $60 in deferred charges on summer bills for all ratepayers, $175 in credits for low-income households, extended shutoff protections, and increased assistance through the Universal Service Fund. Utilities will now offer longer payment plans and continue protections for medically vulnerable customers. The initiatives are part of a broader $430 million relief plan and are meant to provide immediate financial support while the state works through longer-term energy supply challenges.
