Savor the Sound and Smoke at NJ’s Premier BBQ & Blues Event

North Wildwood is set to sizzle this weekend as the New Jersey State Barbecue Championship℠ and Anglesea Blues Festival℠ return for three days of mouthwatering cuisine and soulful music. From Friday through Sunday, 2nd and Olde New Jersey Avenues—and the surrounding entertainment district—will transform into a vibrant celebration of smoky flavors and electric performances. A highlight of the event is the official New Jersey State Barbecue Championship℠, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS), the world’s largest organization dedicated to competitive barbecue. Pitmasters from across the region will compete for more than $10,000 in cash and prizes, with certified KCBS judges on hand to determine who has what it takes to claim the coveted Grand Champion title—and a chance to qualify for the prestigious American Royal Invitational in Kansas City. Admission to the main stage concerts is completely free, with national and regional blues acts performing throughout the weekend, both outdoors and in nearby pubs. The festivities kick off Friday at 4 p.m. and run through 11 p.m., continue all day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and wrap up on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Jersey Shore Rentals Now Discounted After Slow Start to Summer

This summer's Jersey Shore rental season got off to a slow start due to cool spring weather and economic uncertainty, leaving many homes vacant into July. Now, with rising temperatures and renewed interest, last-minute renters are finding discounted rates and short-term stay options. Smaller properties have been harder to book, while high-end rentals remain in demand. Agents encourage prospective renters to shop around and not be afraid to negotiate. Unlike home sales, vacation rentals aren't shared between agencies on a central MLS, so contacting multiple offices can yield different listings. While online platforms like Airbnb and VRBO remain popular, realtors advise caution. Vacationers who book directly with real estate offices often avoid inflated platform fees—sometimes saving as much as 27%—and reduce the risk of scams.

Cape May County Reclaims Airport Operations in $32 Million Deal

Cape May County is taking back control of the Cape May County Airport from the Delaware River and Bay Authority after 25 years, reimbursing the authority at least $32 million for past improvements. The move includes new contracts for airport operations, planning, and the development of a large indoor sports complex. Tensions among commissioners, particularly concerning costs and communication, surfaced during the decision-making process. While the DRBA has committed to a cooperative transfer, the county plans to reshape the airport’s future, possibly including housing and further commercial development, pending FAA approval.
