Marine Center Sounds Alarm Over Dolphin Disturbance by Boaters in Cape May

You have seen them from the beach, and many have even seen them from the ocean. Dolphin sightings are common at the Jersey Shore during summer, but experts warn that boaters and jet skiers are getting too close, potentially harming the animals. The Cape May Whale Watch and Research Center is urging the public to keep at least 150 feet away from dolphins to avoid disrupting their behavior. Federal regulations prohibit feeding or harassing the marine mammals. Experts recommend that if dolphins surface nearby unexpectedly, boaters and jet ski riders should immediately shift into neutral and allow the animals to pass without interference. Watching dolphins from a safe distance not only ensures their well-being but also allows for a more respectful and sustainable wildlife viewing experience.

Parent, Papale, and Gritty to Headline Ocean City’s Night in Venice Boat Parade

Ocean City is preparing for one of its most cherished summer traditions—the 70th annual Night in Venice boat parade—set to light up the bay on Saturday, July 26, 2025. This year’s celebration honors “70 Years of Champions,” a theme that pays tribute to local sports heroes and iconic teams, including this year’s Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Among the grand marshals for this milestone event are Philadelphia sports legends Bernie Parent and Vince Papale. Parent, a former Flyers goalie who led the team to back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in the 1970s, now resides in Avalon. Papale, known for his unlikely rise from bartender to Eagles player in the late '70s, became a symbol of grit and determination—a story famously depicted in the film Invincible. The event includes fireworks, a viewing party at Bayside Center, and a concert the night before. A 5K run, family activities, and performances at the Music Pier round out a week full of events. For more information visit OC Night in Venice.

Perseid Meteor Shower to Dazzle U.S. Skies with August Peak

Skywatchers across the United States are in for a celestial treat as the Perseid meteor shower returns, bringing one of the most spectacular nighttime displays of the year. The event is expected to begin on July 17th, but its peak will occur on the night of August 12 into the early hours of August 13—when up to 100 meteors per hour may streak across the sky. Best seen in dark-sky areas without light pollution, the shower originates from debris left by Comet Swift-Tuttle. No equipment is needed to view it—just find a clear, open sky and allow time for your eyes to adjust. A more intense meteor storm is expected in 2028.
