Cape May Conservation Project Aims to Shield Nature—and Homes

The Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor has completed a major marsh restoration project aimed at combating climate change and preserving critical wildlife habitat. Partnering with federal and state agencies, the effort used eco-friendly sediment techniques to revitalize Scotch Bonnet Marsh. While results may take years to appear, the project offers both environmental and flood protection benefits. Beyond restoration, The Wetlands Institute continues to prioritize education. From youth programs to community outreach, the organization sees knowledge-sharing as a cornerstone of its conservation mission. Staff believe that raising awareness is as vital as scientific research, ensuring that future generations are both informed and inspired to protect the coastal environment.
Wildwood Navy SEAL Challenge Returns with High-Stakes Endurance Test

Wildwood will host the 8th Annual Navy SEAL Challenge on August 3, featuring a series of rigorous endurance events inspired by military training. Set to begin at 6 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue Beach, the competition includes an ocean swim, 5K run, and sand obstacle course. Open to individuals, teams, and kids, and hosted in collaboration with Wildwood Beach Patrol and Even Kiel Racing, the competition offers several formats to suit varying skill levels. Solo contenders can take on the full triad of swim, run, and obstacle events, while teams of four can tackle the course together. For those looking to stay on dry land, a modified version of the challenge skips the ocean portion. Younger athletes can also get in on the action with a scaled-down kids’ run and obstacle course.
New Jersey’s Favorite Beaches Announced—Ocean City Leads Again

Ocean City has been named New Jersey’s favorite beach for the twelfth consecutive year, outpacing Margate in the annual poll. Known for its clean beaches and family-friendly atmosphere, the town retained its title despite a hidden camera incident earlier in the year. This year’s results were revealed at the Ocean City Music Pier, where beach enthusiasts and town officials gathered for the highly anticipated announcement. The annual “New Jersey’s Favorite Beaches” poll, organized by the NJ Sea Grant Consortium, has been a staple of summer since 2008, offering locals and tourists the opportunity to vote for their preferred shorelines across four coastal counties. Cape May was ranked 2nd to Ocean City in Cape May County.
