Cape May County Greenlights Major Safety Overhaul at Inlet Bridge

Cape May County is moving forward with a major infrastructure upgrade, approving a contract worth nearly $4.9 million to replace the protective fender system at the Townsend Inlet Bridge, which connects Sea Isle City and Avalon. The project, designed to enhance the safety and longevity of the bridge, focuses on shielding it from potential damage caused by marine traffic. The fender system serves as a critical buffer between passing vessels and the bridge structure, while also helping to guide boats safely through the channel beneath the span. County commissioners authorized the $4,884,493 contract with South State, Inc. during their recent meeting. Construction is scheduled to be completed by May 2026. The Townsend Inlet Bridge is one of five spans managed by the Cape May County Bridge Commission, which oversees critical transportation links throughout the region.

November Stargazing Guide: Fireballs, Supermoons, and a Planetary Show

Autumn has already been a stellar season for skywatchers across North America, with the northern lights and visiting comets putting on dazzling displays. And the cosmic show isn’t over yet—November is set to deliver even more awe-inspiring moments for those who turn their eyes to the skies. Highlights include Comet Lemmon’s visibility after sunset, the year’s brightest full supermoon on Nov. 5, and several planetary pairings. Meteor showers like the Southern Taurids (Nov. 4–5) and Leonids (Nov. 16–17) offer fireball potential, while Venus and Mercury align closely before sunrise on Nov. 24–25. The aurora borealis is also expected to remain strong throughout the month. Stargazers should look up for a spectacular month ahead.
