Cape May Earns Top Travel Spot as Young Tourists Embrace Slower Getaways

According to New Jersey Family, Cape May has been ranked No. 2 in the U.S. for small-town travel by SIXT, driven by Gen Z's growing preference for "townsizing"—a trend favoring quiet, walkable destinations over urban travel. With under 3,000 residents, moderate noise, and a high number of local businesses, Cape May offers both charm and activity. Cape May’s appeal goes beyond its scenic beaches. Visitors can enjoy the historic downtown near Washington Street Mall, explore natural wonders at Cape May Point, or visit nearby attractions like the Cape May Court House. The town’s iconic Victorian architecture offers visual charm, while outdoor adventures such as rail biking, park visits, and mural spotting at The Garrett Family Preserve give tourists a range of ways to engage with the community.
No Jellyfish, Just Worms: Unusual Sea Visitors Show Up on Jersey Shore

Beachgoers in Wildwood, New Jersey, were treated to an unexpected sight over the weekend as swarms of tiny, red and black worms appeared in the surf. On what was otherwise a beautiful beach day, curious visitors reported seeing the creatures swimming near the shoreline, sparking a flurry of social media posts and puzzled reactions. The creatures, about an inch long and resembling thin eels or sticks, caught the attention of tourists from across the region. While some found them fascinating, others weren’t so thrilled, describing them as strange or unpleasant. Despite the mixed reactions, the worms didn’t deter many from enjoying the ocean—especially since they posed no real threat. The sudden appearance of these harmless marine worms is linked to their short-lived spawning season. By Monday, they had disappeared from the shoreline.

Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris,” describes the weather service. “You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
