New Jersey to Test Hurricane Evacuation Routes on Thursday

New Jersey will run a hurricane evacuation drill on Thursday to practice traffic control on major Shore evacuation routes. No roads will close, but drivers will see increased police and work crews. The drill includes a simulated contraflow setup and covers several major highways. Officials are reminding drivers to be alert for roadside workers and law enforcement during the drill. Motorists are urged to slow down and change lanes when possible to ensure everyone's safety.
The drill will involve several major evacuation corridors, including:
· The Garden State Parkway, from Lower Township to Egg Harbor
· Route 47 and Route 347 between Dennis and Maurice River
· The full length of the Atlantic City Expressway
Tall Ship A.J. Meerwald Returns to Cape May for Summer Sails

The historic schooner A.J. Meerwald, New Jersey’s official tall ship, has returned to the Cape May Ferry Terminal for public and educational sails through September 21. The vessel, originally launched in 1928 as an oyster schooner, returned on August 1 after a regional tour that included stops in Toms River, New York Harbor, and Sandy Hook Bay. Through a partnership with the Delaware River & Bay Authority, the Meerwald will operate public sailings and educational programs out of Cape May through September 21. The two-hour cruises explore the Delaware Bay and include family-friendly environmental programs on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Guests are welcome to bring snacks and beverages aboard. Full sailing schedules and ticket information are available at bayshorecenter.org.
