Massive Hurricane Erin Moves Up Atlantic, Sparks Alerts From Florida to New England

Hurricane Erin, now a Category 3 storm (as of this writing), is growing in size and power as it moves north off the Atlantic coast. While it remains offshore, the storm is expected to bring 20-foot waves, strong rip currents, and coastal flooding from Florida to New England through Thursday, August 21. Mandatory evacuations have begun in parts of the Outer Banks. Beachgoers are being urged to stay out of the water as conditions worsen. Coastal flooding, dangerous surf, and life-threatening rip currents are expected to stretch as far as the Bahamas and Atlantic Canada. Meteorologists caution that even without a direct landfall, Erin's sheer size and energy will make for hazardous coastal conditions throughout the week. Use caution in coastal area’s.
Cape May’s Sky Ads: How Banner Planes Snag Attention (and Banners) in Mid-Air

Cape May Aerial Advertising, a banner-flying company based in Cape May Court House, is keeping the tradition of aerial beach ads alive with a specialized fleet of planes. The banners don’t launch with the plane. Instead, they’re carefully laid out in a field with a tow rope suspended between two vertical poles. As the plane approaches low and slow, the pilot uses a hook attached to a boom to “snag” the rope on the fly. It’s a high-precision maneuver that demands skill and timing. Once hooked, the banner is lifted into the sky, fluttering behind the aircraft as it heads toward the shoreline. The company continues a legacy dating back to 1945, combining passion for flight with precision work in the skies above the Jersey Shore.
Police Seize Stolen Firearm Loaded with Hollow-Points; Two Men in Custody
On the evening of Saturday, August 14, authorities were alerted to suspicious activity involving a possible firearm in the area of 23rd Avenue and the boardwalk. Responding officers located Paul Volpe, who was found carrying a Sig Sauer P290 .380 handgun. Further inspection revealed the firearm had been reported stolen in Pennsylvania. The weapon’s magazine contained a mix of hollow-point and round nose ammunition. A subsequent investigation, aided by surveillance footage, led police to identify a second suspect—24-year-old Jimmy Schultz, also of Philadelphia—who had also been in possession of the same handgun at some point. Officers later located Schultz and took him into custody. Both men were charged with a range of weapons-related offenses following their arrests.
