50 MPH Wind Gusts Expected in NJ Shore Counties as Advisory Takes Effect Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for parts of southern New Jersey, warning residents in Cape May, and Atlantic counties to brace for strong gusts starting Thursday morning. The advisory, which takes effect at 10 a.m. Thursday and remains in place through midnight on Friday, highlights the potential for hazardous wind conditions across the region. Forecasters predict sustained northeast winds ranging from 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts potentially reaching 50 miles per hour. The gusty conditions could cause unsecured outdoor items to shift or become airborne, while tree limbs may snap, raising the possibility of scattered power outages. Motorists, particularly those driving high-profile vehicles, are advised to exercise caution due to the risk of sudden gusts impacting vehicle control. Residents are encouraged to secure any loose outdoor belongings ahead of the weather system’s arrival
Red Flags Fly Across the Shore as Dangerous Surf Slams New Jersey

It’s all about the weather this week. Hurricane Erin, churning hundreds of miles offshore, is already impacting New Jersey’s coastline with powerful rip currents and hazardous surf, forcing a growing number of Shore towns to shut down access to the ocean. Cape May, among the most impacted, is flying double red flags through Thursday, signaling extreme danger in the water. Other communities, including Ocean City, and Wildwood, have instituted full swimming bans, while select areas like Long Branch are cautiously allowing limited swimming under close supervision. Check local weather forecasts before venturing out or the links above for any activities that may be canceled.
“It’s a Philly Thing” Puts Spotlight on Drexel–LaSalle Showdown

Ocean City High School coach and former Drexel rower Colin Stewart has created It’s a Philly Thing, a documentary exploring the close yet fierce rowing rivalry between Drexel and LaSalle. The film highlights local rowing talent, LaSalle’s rapid turnaround under coach Ivo Krakic, and Drexel’s recovery from a major team collapse. Filmed through Stewart’s production company, Five Tribes Cinema Productions, It’s a Philly Thing combines cinematic visuals—drone shots, GoPro footage, and multicamera setups—with candid, day-in-the-life sequences. The result is a 90-minute portrait of workouts, water sessions, and race-day intensity. The documentary also serves as a “love letter” to Boathouse Row, the Dad Vail Regatta, and Philadelphia’s rowing community. The film points to the city as one of the most important rowing hubs in the country, with a tradition that spans high school novices, collegiate crews, masters rowers, and national team athletes.
