City Launches First Property Revaluation in Cape May County

North Wildwood is initiating a citywide property reassessment to align property values with current market rates. With assessments averaging only 55.6% of real value, the move addresses a $2.2 billion gap between assessed and market property values. Reassessment efforts will be ongoing through 2026. During this period, inspectors will evaluate properties to gather updated data. Once the analysis is complete, new assessment notices will be mailed to all property owners, with the updated values taking effect for the 2027 tax year.
Cape May’s Only Horse Rescue Faces Rising Costs, Keeps Mission Alive

In the heart of Cape May County, a local nonprofit is transforming the lives of abandoned horses—and the people who care for them. At Starfish Equine Rescue, horses once bound for slaughterhouses or left to fend for themselves are being rehabilitated and rehomed thanks to the vision and dedication of lifelong equine advocate Abby Revoir. Combining rehabilitation with adoption, the nonprofit offers horses a second chance at life. While some horses recover in just a few months, others—like sanctuary horses or those in poor health—require long-term care. One of the most difficult rescues came last fall, when a malnourished young Thoroughbred named Addam was surrendered in Ohio. Suffering from severe weight loss and a dangerous heart murmur, Addam’s recovery was slow and costly. But after months of nutrition and care, he returned to full health and now thrives as a riding horse—a powerful symbol of the difference rescue can make. Costs and limited funding pose challenges, success stories like Addam and 4-H champions Cherokee and Johnny showcase the transformative power of rescue.
As Summer Winds Down, NJ Residents Sound Off on Beach Space Etiquette

As summer 2025 begins its final stretch, beachgoers across New Jersey are trying to savor every sunny day left. For many, that means long afternoons soaking up the sun, enjoying a slice of boardwalk pizza, and unwinding to the sound of crashing waves. But nothing ruins that peaceful shoreline escape faster than watching a mini-mansion of tents and canopies pop up directly in front of you. The “tent takeover” is a growing frustration on Garden State beaches. As large tents and canopies increasingly crowd New Jersey beaches, some are calling for a tiered beach tag system where bigger setups cost more. Of course, it's no secret that a trip to the Jersey Shore comes with a hefty price tag—rental homes, parking, food, and beach access can all add up. But for some, the issue boils down to fairness and shared space. If you're using enough beach to host a family reunion, should you be contributing more than someone using a single towel? With just a few weeks of prime beach weather left, it’s a conversation many believe is long overdue.
