Hurricane Erin Ends Wildwood’s Fireworks Season Ahead of Schedule

The summer tradition of Friday night fireworks in Wildwood, New Jersey, has come to an unexpected close for 2025. City officials announced that the weekly fireworks displays have been cancelled for the remainder of the season following structural damage caused by Hurricane Erin. The storm, which recently swept through the Jersey Shore, inflicted damage to the fireworks launch area on the Wildwood boardwalk. As a result, the city deemed it necessary to end the popular event series ahead of schedule. While disappointing to locals and vacationers alike, officials emphasize that safety and infrastructure integrity must take priority. The fireworks may be done for the year, but recovery efforts are just getting started.

Monarch Migration Begins: Millions of Butterflies Embark on Epic Journey South

Millions of monarch butterflies have begun their annual fall migration, traveling up to 3,000 miles from North America to wintering grounds in Mexico and California. Driven by instinct, the butterflies rely on late-blooming flowers for fuel along the way. Despite their astonishing journey, monarch populations have plummeted due to habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change. In the meantime, conservationists urge the public to take action. Planting late-blooming native flowers, removing invasive milkweed species, and reducing pesticide use are all recommended steps to support monarch survival. Organizations like Save Our Monarchs are working to engage the public, even offering free milkweed seeds to help create butterfly-friendly habitats. By early spring, the monarchs will begin their journey north once again, laying eggs on milkweed plants along the way—continuing a generational cycle that relies on both instinct and environmental stewardship to endure. Federal protection under the Endangered Species Act is under consideration.
