Powerball Fever Grows: $1B Jackpot Up for Grabs on September 1

The Powerball jackpot has surged to a staggering $1 billion after no ticket matched all winning numbers in the drawing held on Saturday, August 30. This follows a similar outcome from the Wednesday, August 27 draw, where no top-prize winner emerged either. The updated jackpot now stands as one of the largest in recent Powerball history. If claimed, the prize offers a one-time cash payout option of $453.1 million before taxes. So far in 2025, there have been four jackpot winners. The most recent came on May 31, when a California ticket secured a $204.5 million prize. Earlier in the year, a player in Oregon kicked off 2025 with a $328.5 million win on January 18. That was followed by a massive $527 million prize claimed on March 29, and a $167.3 million jackpot won in Kentucky on April 26. The next chance to claim the growing prize will be today shortly after 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
Jersey Shore Rebounds from Hurricane Erin Just in Time for Labor Day

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) reported that the state’s 127-mile coastline withstood the storm relatively well, with many beaches doing their job in shielding coastal properties. Still, several towns, particularly along the southern stretches of the shore, experienced moderate to severe erosion—especially in areas historically vulnerable to storm impacts. In response to the storm's aftermath, local leaders are pushing for long-term solutions. Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian joined other shore town officials in a recent meeting with Congressman Jeff Van Drew to advocate for steady federal funding for beach replenishment projects. Gillian emphasized the effectiveness of these efforts in protecting homes, businesses, and tourism economies along the shore. As reported earlier, Van Drew is preparing to introduce legislation aimed at establishing permanent federal funding for beach protection, ensuring that New Jersey’s iconic coastline remains resilient in the face of future storms.

Run in partnership with RSVP, the program offers training and certification to individuals aged 55 and older. Volunteers who join the VITA program receive specialized training and IRS certification, equipping them to assist taxpayers accurately and confidently. The program not only provides a valuable service to the community but also offers a meaningful opportunity for older adults to stay engaged and make a difference during tax season.
