Nearly 385,000 people visited the library last year, and the system continues to evolve while honoring its legacy as a vital public service
Autumn Arrives: Fall Equinox Brings Nearly Equal Day and Night on September 22

The fall equinox occurs on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 2:19 p.m. EDT, marking the official start of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. On this day, Earth’s axis is tilted neither toward nor away from the sun, creating nearly equal lengths of day and night worldwide. While the word “equinox” suggests perfect balance, atmospheric refraction makes daylight slightly longer. The sun will set directly in the west, a unique feature of equinoxes. The event also holds cultural significance, with ancient structures like Chichén Itzá aligned to mark the occasion. Fall will last until the winter solstice on December 21.
Boardwalk Makeover Set to Begin This Fall Despite Material Concerns

Ocean City has approved a $4.2 million reconstruction of the Boardwalk from St. Charles Place to Fifth Street. The project will begin this fall and finish by spring 2026, ahead of the tourism season. Upgrades include new pilings, decking, ADA-compliant ramps, stairs, and decorative lighting. Councilman Jody Levchuk cast the sole dissenting vote, objecting to some of the materials but not specifying which. Officials warned that changes could delay the timeline. The Boardwalk remains a vital attraction, requiring periodic upgrades due to heavy use and harsh coastal conditions.
