Cape May’s Exit Zero Filling Station Shuts Down After Six-Year Run

Exit Zero Filling Station, a Cape May restaurant known for its retro charm and creative pandemic-era dining pods, has closed after six years. The closure was marked by a final three-day sale started yesterday and will run through Wednesday, giving patrons a chance to purchase items from the restaurant, including dishes, tables, signage, and more. Located at 110 Sunset Boulevard, the Filling Station opened in 2018 as the latest venture from Exit Zero, a local media and lifestyle brand that began as a weekly magazine in 2003. While the Filling Station has shuttered, Exit Zero continues to operate at the Cape May–Lewes Ferry terminal under a long-term lease signed in 2021.

NJ MVC Still Seeing High Demand for Real ID Licenses

New Jersey’s MVC continues to issue thousands of Real ID licenses weekly, months after an initial deadline surge. Special programs like designated processing days and mobile events remain in place to meet high demand. Officials emphasize preparedness and ask customers to cancel unneeded appointments. To qualify for a Real ID, applicants must bring:

· Two proofs of New Jersey residency

· A verifiable Social Security number

· Documents totaling six points of identification, per state guidelines

A properly prepared applicant should expect the entire Real ID process to take about 45 minutes. Arriving 15 minutes early is recommended to keep appointments running smoothly. While Real ID is not mandatory for all travelers, it will be required to board domestic flights and enter certain federal facilities starting from the enforcement date. Those without a Real ID can still use alternative identification like a valid passport or Department of Defense ID.

Cape May Maritime Museum Revives Iconic 1952 Coast Guard Vessel

.The Cape May Maritime Museum has restored the CG-36538, a 73-year-old wooden Coast Guard lifeboat, after nearly a decade of volunteer-led work. Acquired for $1 in 2012, the vessel underwent extensive repairs funded by federal grants, donations, and thousands of hours of labor. The boat will be temporarily docked at Cape May Marina before being moved into winter storage at Eckels Diesel in Rio Grande. The restoration isn’t complete; plans are already underway to install a new canopy over the helm and bronze fixtures on the rub rails. The Cape May Maritime Museum views this milestone not as an endpoint, but as an ongoing journey to preserve and honor local maritime history. Thanks to community generosity, volunteer craftsmanship, and a shared love of the sea, the CG-36538 sails again.
