NWS Warns of Flooding and Dangerous Rip Currents in Cape May

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for Cape May County on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m., with minor tidal flooding expected. Forecasts indicate that up to half a foot of water above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near tidal waterways and coastal zones. While flooding is anticipated to be minor, residents and visitors are urged to use caution, as some roads, parking lots, and parks may experience temporary inundation. Isolated road closures could occur, particularly in areas known to be vulnerable during high tides. A high rip current risk also continues through the week, as the surf hazard program wraps up for the season on September 30. Residents are urged to avoid flooded areas and use caution near the ocean.

Route 47 Crash Leaves One Dead, Investigation Ongoing

A tragic accident in Cape May County claimed the life of a local man Monday night when an e-bike and two vehicles collided along Route 47 in Rio Grande. Emergency crews responded to the scene at the intersection of Route 47 and School Lane just before 9 p.m., where a preliminary investigation revealed that 57-year-old Albert MacFarlane of Rio Grande had been riding his e-bike southbound on Route 47. As he approached the intersection, a Ford Bronco attempted to make a left turn onto School Lane, cutting across his path and causing a violent collision. Authorities closed Route 47 South for approximately three hours to conduct an on-site investigation and clear the area. Multiple agencies assisted, including the Rio Grande Fire Department, Cape May County Fire Police, the New Jersey Department of Transportation, and AtlantiCare EMS.
