Ocean City Hero: Local Man Rescues Swimmer from Rip Current

Two beachgoers rescued a young woman caught in a rip current at Ocean City's 9th Street Beach. With no lifeguards on duty, longtime resident Frank LaFerrara swam out to help, joined by Johnny Cerda of Ventnor, who brought a flotation device. The swimmer was safely brought to shore before emergency crews arrived. Earlier that day, four other swimmers had been rescued near the same jetty, highlighting the dangers of unguarded beaches during the off-season.
Higbee Beach Incident Probe Leads to Arrest of Vineland Resident

Leonardo L. Medero, 44, of Vineland was arrested and charged with multiple counts of lewdness after several beachgoers reported similar incidents at Higbee Beach this summer. The reports, first received in August and followed by additional complaints days later, prompted an investigation that led to Medero’s detention at the Cape May County Correctional Center. Higbee Beach, which has a history as a former nude beach before clothing was later required by Lower Township ordinances and court rulings, has been the location of several high‑profile disputes over beach attire rules in the past.
Sea Isle’s $21M Rec Center Set for Grand Debut on New Year’s Eve

Sea Isle City plans to debut its new $21 million community center with a New Year’s Eve celebration that may also serve as the building’s official grand opening. Located on the site of the former Sea Isle City Public School, the facility includes a gym, community rooms, a performance stage, and quiet spaces. Construction is nearly complete, with the city targeting a late-fall finish. The event marks a major milestone for the city and will offer residents their first look at the long-awaited recreation hub. Once completed, the facility is expected to become a year-round anchor for community life in Sea Isle City — and what better way to introduce it than with a festive celebration to ring in 2026?
