Sherlock Holmes Returns to Cape May in East Lynne Theater's New Mystery Drama

East Lynne Theater Company is set to debut Sherlock Holmes: Scandals, a world premiere radio-style mystery running from October 23 to 25, 2025, at Cape May Presbyterian Church. The performance is part of the long-standing Cape May MAC’s Sherlock Holmes Weekend, continuing East Lynne’s 26-year tradition of adapting Holmes tales for the stage.
Adapted by longtime company member Mark Edward Lang, the production merges two classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories: A Scandal in Bohemia and The Adventure of the Cardboard Box. Audiences will follow the famous detective as he attempts to recover a compromising photograph from the mysterious opera singer Irene Adler, and later, as he investigates a chilling case involving a pair of severed ears and a trail of secrets tied to love and betrayal.
Set in the golden age of radio, the show recreates a live 1938 broadcast, complete with vintage flair and a cast taking on multiple roles. New York actor Ezra Barnes returns as Sherlock Holmes, joined by Rik Walter, who debuts with the company as Dr. Watson. Shelley McPherson plays Irene Adler along with other parts, while Lang himself voices several supporting roles including Inspector Lestrade. Ken Hornbeck manages the production and appears in additional roles.
Evening performances begin at 7:00 p.m. from Thursday through Saturday. Tickets are priced at $30 for adults and $25 for students and military. The venue, Cape May Presbyterian Church, is located at 500 Hughes Street. For ticketing and details, visit EastLynneTheater.org.
Bruce Willis-Named Rest Stop Closes for Upgrades Along Garden State Parkway

The Ocean View service plaza on the Garden State Parkway has closed for two months for renovations. No fuel, food, restrooms, or tourism services are available during the closure. Located near Exit 17, just outside Sea Isle City, the Ocean View plaza is the southernmost service stop on the Parkway—and the only one in Cape May County. As of Tuesday, the facility is fully closed, with no access to fuel, food, restrooms, or the New Jersey Tourism Information Center. Construction is expected to last approximately two months. The work is being carried out by Sunoco, which holds a 25-year agreement with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority to manage the convenience store and gas station operations. The renovation includes a full refresh of the interior store, upgrades to the fuel pumps, and improvements to the canopy. Despite the closure, not everything is off-limits. NJ Transit buses will continue to operate from the plaza, and the parking lot remains open to commuters. Local drivers will also still be able to make U-turns from the Parkway’s northbound lanes to the southbound side—a feature frequently used by residents returning to Sea Isle City and nearby areas. The plaza, renamed in 2024 for actor Bruce Willis, is the only rest stop in Cape May County.

Both Ocean Academy and Cape May County High School were recognized for their sustainability efforts, including waste reduction and community partnerships. The district will be honored at an upcoming awards ceremony on October 21 in Atlantic City.
