LCMR Football Falls Short in Semifinals, But Future Looks Bright

Lower Cape May Regional’s football season came to a close Friday night, November 7, as the Caper Tigers were knocked out of the South Jersey Group 2 semifinals by Haddonfield, falling 28-13 on the Bulldogs’ home field. LCMR (8-3) opened the scoring with a creative trick play—running back Ryan Mallon connected on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Fernandez, giving the Tigers an early 7-0 lead. But Haddonfield (8-2) quickly responded and took control of the game by the third quarter, building a 21-7 lead. Mallon added a two-yard rushing touchdown to cut into the deficit, but a missed extra point left the score at 21-13. Haddonfield sealed the win with one final touchdown before the end of regulation. Despite the loss, it was a milestone season for LCMR. Under first-year head coach Billy Damiana, the Tigers captured their fourth-ever division title and their first playoff win in school history—defeating Gloucester City at home. With standout underclassmen like quarterback David Douglass, Mallon, and Fernandez returning, the program's future looks strong. Adding to the optimism, the junior varsity squad capped off its season undefeated.

Ocean City Revamps Former Dealership Lot into Public Recreation Space

Ocean City is redeveloping a long-vacant lot between 16th and 17th Streets into a public recreational space as part of its ongoing beautification efforts. Once the site of the Perry-Egan Car Dealership, the property had been used for overflow parking in recent years. The project may cause temporary parking changes and minor traffic delays near the community center and library. This initiative reflects the city’s continued investment in modernizing public spaces for residents and visitors.

Answer to the November 9th Trivia Question

A) 1,500
B) 2,100
C) 3,000

Answer: D) 3,500
The Mount Vernon Hotel, constructed in 1852 on the west end of Cape May's oceanfront, was designed to accommodate 3,500 guests, making it the largest hotel in the world at that time. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire in 1856 before its completion.
