Study Warns NJ Power Prices to Spike Without Clean Energy Push

A new report from Synapse Energy Economics, backed by the NRDC and Evergreen Collaborative, outlines four immediate clean energy reforms that could lower New Jersey electricity costs by 21% as early as next year and save households $467 annually by 2030. These include grid modernization, requiring data centers to generate their own power, reducing utility profit margins, and expanding EV and building electrification programs. Without action, energy bills could rise by $70 per month. The recommendations align with incoming Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s energy platform and aim to address both climate and affordability concerns.
