Atlantic City Airport Expands as Allegiant Air Brings Award-Winning Service

Atlantic City International Airport is preparing for a major upgrade in air travel options as Allegiant Air prepares to launch new service in December—bringing competition to an airport that has long been dominated by a single carrier.

For years, Spirit Airlines was the sole airline offering regular passenger service at Atlantic City International. That will change next month as Allegiant Air begins operations, connecting Atlantic City with four destinations in Florida.

Allegiant’s arrival comes on the heels of a major accolade: Skytrax has named Allegiant the Best Low-Cost Airline in North America for the second consecutive year. The award is based on Skytrax's comprehensive global customer satisfaction survey, which this year compiled feedback from over 22 million passengers. According to aviation site SimpleFlying.com, the recognition is largely due to Allegiant’s strong customer service ratings.

Founded in 1997 under the name WestJet Express, Allegiant went through early financial struggles, including a bankruptcy filing in 2000. Since then, the airline has rebounded significantly, establishing a unique niche by servicing smaller U.S. airports and offering low-cost, direct flights to popular leisure destinations.

With its new service to and from Atlantic City, Allegiant is expected to enhance travel flexibility and attract more visitors to South Jersey, offering convenient access to Florida’s sunny coasts just in time for the winter travel season.

North Wildwood’s Iconic Ice Cream Parlor Prepares for Next Chapter

For over two decades, Cool Scoops Ice Cream Parlor has been a vibrant fixture in North Wildwood, drawing locals and tourists alike with its retro aesthetic and classic charm. Now, after 24 years in business, the family behind this nostalgic hotspot is preparing to pass the torch. The Russo family, who opened the parlor in 2002, are planning to retire and are seeking a buyer who will maintain the establishment's nostalgic vibe. While no timeline has been set for the sale, Cool Scoops will remain open in 2026 with seasonal hours. This transition reflects a broader trend across the South Jersey shore, where longtime establishments have undergone ownership changes or reinventions in recent years. Despite these changes, Cool Scoops remains committed to serving up smiles—and scoops—while its future is determined.

Ocean City Eyes Luxury Condo Redevelopment for Long-Vacant Bayfront Property

A long-shuttered building in Ocean City may soon see new life as a luxury residential development, as city officials prepare to introduce a redevelopment plan for the abandoned Seaspray condominium complex.

Located at 3313 Bay Avenue, the property has stood vacant since spring 2024, following years of structural issues and deferred maintenance. Originally constructed in the 1950s as a hotel, the building was later converted into a 32-unit condominium complex in 1999. Over time, its condition deteriorated to the point that the city declared it structurally unsafe in 2023, although it briefly reopened before further damage—including falling concrete—forced its closure again in 2024.

The city has already designated the property as an area in need of rehabilitation, a key step that clears the way for redevelopment efforts. Officials say the proposal is part of a broader push to revitalize underutilized or unsafe properties and improve the city’s housing stock.

The public is invited to attend the initial council meeting, which will take place at 6 p.m. on November 20 in the third-floor council chambers at City Hall on Asbury Avenue. The full agenda is available on Ocean City’s website.
