Cape May Crowned New Jersey’s Most Christmassy Town

Cape May has once again claimed the spotlight as New Jersey’s top holiday destination, earning the title of the state’s "most Christmassy town" in a new national ranking.
According to a recent survey conducted by Mixbook.com, which polled about 3,000 families to identify towns that radiate festive charm, Cape May stood out for its unmistakable holiday spirit and was ranked 53rd nationwide among the most Christmassy towns in America.
Famed for its Victorian architecture and coastal charm, Cape May takes on a magical atmosphere during the holiday season. The town’s historic district glows under thousands of twinkling lights, transforming its streets into a nostalgic, storybook scene reminiscent of a Dickens-era Christmas.
One of the season’s main attractions is the annual "Cape May Christmas Candlelight House Tours," where visitors can explore lavishly decorated historic homes and inns. The event invites guests to take a step back in time while enjoying the warmth, glow, and festive flair of the town’s holiday decor.
Cape May’s ranking puts it in notable company, alongside towns like North Pole, Alaska — a perennial Christmas favorite. But for those looking to celebrate the season a bit closer to home, the Garden State’s seaside gem offers a full calendar of holiday experiences. From trolley rides and free concerts to seasonal markets and festive photo ops, Cape May has become a must-visit destination for holiday travelers and locals alike.
With its old-world charm and winter wonderland feel, Cape May continues to shine as New Jersey’s Christmas capital.
Cape May Court House Shopping Center Sold for $32M in Major Retail Deal

The Plaza at Cape May Court House, a prominent shopping center in Cape May County, has been sold for $32 million to Alpine Real Estate Partners. The 163,000-square-foot property, anchored by Acme and featuring tenants like Starbucks and Staples, is 89% leased. The center has become a central commercial hub for nearby high-end shore communities like Avalon and Stone Harbor. These affluent neighborhoods significantly boost foot traffic and tenant performance, particularly during the summer tourist season, when the population in the surrounding area spikes to levels comparable to large cities.
RW Partners had acquired the property in 2016 for $27.4 million, reflecting a $167 per square foot valuation at the time. Over the past nine years, the shopping center has maintained strong occupancy and tenant performance, helping to drive its market value upward. With the new acquisition, Alpine Real Estate Partners plans to enhance the existing tenant mix and capitalize on the center’s established role as a commercial gateway to some of New Jersey’s most vibrant coastal communities
Emergency Cold Weather Advisory in Effect Across Cape May County

It’s not even winter yet and The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management has issued it’s second Code Blue advisory in as many weeks, for the entire county. It will go into effect from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on December 2, 3, and 4, 2025. The alert comes as a cold front moves through the region, with overnight temperatures expected to plunge between 21 and 29 degrees Fahrenheit.
A Code Blue is declared when temperatures are forecasted to drop to 32 degrees or below, creating potentially hazardous conditions for anyone without adequate shelter. The added threat of gusty winds and possible rain could further increase the risk of cold-related health issues, particularly for vulnerable individuals such as the homeless or those living in poorly insulated housing.
The advisory aims to ensure that people exposed to the elements can access warm, safe environments. County officials urge residents in need of temporary shelter to reach out to their local municipality or dial 2-1-1 for assistance. Additional information, including shelter locations and preparedness resources, can be found on the Cape May County website or by contacting the Office of Emergency Management directly.
Residents are encouraged to check on neighbors, especially the elderly or those with limited mobility, and to take extra precautions when venturing outdoors during the overnight hours.
