Cape May and Ocean City Blanketed by Weekend Snowfall

The weekend snowstorm transformed shore towns in Cape May county into serene, snow-covered landscapes. Several inches of snow fell across the region, leaving behind a glistening layer of white across beaches, boardwalks, promenades, and quiet residential streets. In Ocean City, where snowfall reached about six inches, the normally lively Boardwalk took on a strikingly different character — quiet, still, and nearly empty. Cape May saw around five inches of accumulation, with similar scenes unfolding across the town. While government offices and schools remained closed on Monday, signs of life and activity were still visible. Residents ventured outdoors, some with dogs in tow, to enjoy the wintry backdrop under sunny skies and brisk temperatures. Others tackled the task of digging out, using snow blowers and shovels to clear walkways coated in slush and ice. Icy patches made walking precarious in places, creating a mix of beauty and challenge for pedestrians. Thanks to the swift response of local Public Works Departments, snowplows worked steadily to keep roads passable. Highways, neighborhood streets, and alleyways were cleared throughout the day, making travel relatively smooth for drivers who chose to head out.

Casino Workers Take Smoking Ban Fight to N.J. Supreme Court

Casino workers in Atlantic City are preparing to bring their case against indoor smoking directly to the New Jersey Supreme Court, after a state appellate court declined to rule on whether they have a constitutional right to a smoke-free workplace. The appellate court ordered further hearings, but worker advocates argue there's already sufficient evidence and are seeking an immediate review. Atlantic City remains the only place in New Jersey where indoor smoking is still permitted in public spaces. The city’s casinos received a special exemption from the state’s indoor smoking ban more than two decades ago—a carve-out that critics say is long overdue for reconsideration. The Casino Association of New Jersey, which represents the gaming industry, has not commented on the court’s decision or the potential Supreme Court review. As the legal challenge intensifies, advocates for casino workers are pressing the urgency of the matter, citing ongoing health risks and the need for swift judicial intervention.

Mullock Urges National Unity After Deadly Federal Actions in Minneapolis

Cape May Mayor Zachary Mullock voiced sorrow and concern over the recent fatal shootings by ICE agents in Minneapolis, calling the events a “constitutional crisis” and urging leaders nationwide to support peace, accountability, and democratic principles. Mullock criticized the erosion of states’ rights and selective law enforcement, while also acknowledging the difficulty of law enforcement work. His statement concluded with a broader appeal rooted in his public and personal values, advocating for compassion, peace, and justice. Mullock encouraged communities across the U.S. to support Minneapolis in the face of national unrest, and to recommit to the values enshrined in the Constitution.
