Cape May County Zoo Welcomed 750,000 Visitors in 2025

Visitors have long known the Cape May County Zoo is a favorite destination, but newly released figures show just how popular the attraction has become. County officials report that approximately 750,000 people visited the zoo in 2025, placing it among the most visited attractions in South Jersey. Spread across nearly the entire year, that figure averages out to roughly 2,000 visitors per day, with summer weekends routinely far exceeding that number. Opened in 1978, the Cape May County Zoo spans 220 acres and is home to more than 500 animals from around the world. Over the years, it has built a national reputation, earning recognition in 2015 when TripAdvisor ranked it among the top zoos in both the United States and the world. One of the zoo’s most notable features remains its free admission. While donations are encouraged, there is no charge to enter, a rarity among major zoos. Despite its size, animal variety, and popularity, the zoo continues to operate without mandatory admission or parking fees. County officials credit the zoo’s success to decades of steady investment in animal habitats, visitor amenities, and overall guest experience. Those improvements have helped cement the zoo’s standing as a top-tier attraction that continues to draw families, tourists, and locals throughout the year. For comparison, the Philadelphia Zoo attracts about 1.3 million visitors annually, meaning Cape May County Zoo’s attendance is not far behind—despite being located in a much smaller regional market. While year-over-year attendance trends were not provided, the 2025 total underscores the zoo’s continued growth and enduring appeal as one of Cape May County’s most visited destinations. Visitors have long known the Cape May County Zoo is a favorite destination, but newly released figures show just how popular the attraction has become.

Braving the Cold for a Cause: Fallen Hero Plunge Set for Feb. 28

North Wildwood will once again host the annual Fallen Hero Plunge later this month, inviting residents and visitors to brave the cold Atlantic waters in support of a meaningful cause. The 19th annual event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10:45 a.m. on the 15th Street beach. Participants will take a chilly dip as part of a fundraiser honoring law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. All proceeds from the plunge benefit the Fallen Heroes Survivors Fund, which supports the families of fallen officers. Registration is currently open online, with the first 500 registrants receiving a commemorative event T-shirt. Those who prefer to sign up in person may do so on the morning of the event, between 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. The registration fee is $40 for adults and $15 for children under 15. Beyond the plunge itself, the event features an auction with autographed memorabilia, gift certificates, and themed gift baskets. Participants are also encouraged to dress up, with prizes awarded for the best costumes. Following the plunge, all are welcome to attend a post-event celebration beginning at noon at Keenan’s Irish Pub and other sponsoring locations. The after-party will feature live music by Shot of Southern, with additional bands expected to be announced. There is no cover charge, and costumes are optional. Additional details, including a full list of sponsors, can be found on the event’s official website.
