Singer-Songwriter Conference Brings Music Industry Talent to Cape May

Cape May will welcome singers and musicians from across the region on March 27 and 28 for the Singer-Songwriter of Cape May Conference & Showcase, a two-day event focused on education, collaboration, and live performance. The conference will be centered at Congress Hall, with additional events hosted at several downtown venues. Designed as a community-driven gathering, the showcase offers artists the opportunity to learn directly from experienced music industry professionals while connecting with fellow performers. More than 50 industry figures are expected to take part as speakers, mentors, and talent scouts. The schedule includes panel discussions, workshops, clinics, and one-on-one mentoring sessions covering songwriting, live performance, publishing, recording, and navigating the music business. Live music will be a central part of the event, with performances scheduled throughout Cape May at venues including Congress Hall, Carney’s, Delaney’s, Elaine’s, Fins Bar & Grille, and The Mad Batter. In addition to concerts and workshops, the conference places a strong emphasis on networking and practical guidance aimed at helping artists develop sustainable careers in the music industry. Organizers highlight Cape May’s long-standing connection to arts and culture as a key reason for hosting the event in the historic seaside town. Full conference schedules, registration details, and lodging information are available through the event’s website. Early-bird overnight accommodations are being offered through select Cape May resorts.

Officials Revisit Jersey Shore Beach Project After $54M Plan Fell Apart

Officials are revisiting a major beach replenishment project in Cape May County after a $54 million plan for Five-Mile Island collapsed due to disagreements among towns. The original plan was intended to reinforce beaches across Five-Mile Island, including North Wildwood, Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, and Diamond Beach in Lower Township. That effort stalled when officials in Wildwood and Wildwood Crest raised concerns that the design would negatively alter their beaches. Wildwood Crest ultimately withdrew from the project, and with negotiations at an impasse, the federally approved plan was shelved and its funding redirected elsewhere. The renewed talks come as shore communities face broader uncertainty over beach replenishment funding. Federal spending reductions in 2025 led to the cancellation of several coastal repair projects, increasing pressure on state and local governments to fill the gap. Large-scale shoreline projects are typically funded primarily by the federal government, with the state covering the remaining share before costs are passed on locally. New Jersey has steadily increased its financial commitment, with the Shore Protection Fund now reaching about $50 million annually.

$300,000 Theft Uncovered at Family-Owned Business in The Villas

A Galloway couple working for Al’s Plumbing & Heating in Lower Township has been charged with stealing around $300,000 from the business over three years. The office manager and her husband allegedly engaged in theft and money laundering. An internal audit led to their arrest. Authorities have identified the suspects as Jenna M. Gibson, 35, who worked as the office manager, and her husband, 33-year-old plumber Chadwick W. Handlovsky, both residents of Galloway. The couple now faces charges of second-degree theft by deception, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit theft. Though investigators have not released details on how the funds were funneled out of the business, both suspects have been formally charged and released on bail pending further court proceedings. Al’s Plumbing & Heating has been a trusted name in the community since the 1970s, serving customers throughout Villas and the wider Lower Township area.
