Cape May Municipalities Invited to Apply for Patriotic Event Grants

Cape May County has created the “CMC Land of the Free 250” grant program to help its 16 municipalities celebrate America’s 250th anniversary in 2026. The county will provide up to $250,000 in matching funds, with each town eligible to receive as much as $25,000 to support patriotic-themed events. The initiative is designed to encourage community-driven celebrations that highlight both local history and the nation’s founding. The program will also draw attention to the county’s Revolutionary War ties, including the 1776 Battle of Turtle Gut Inlet. Additional details about the application process will be announced soon.
Van Drew Tours Storm-Ravaged Shore as New Coastal Funding Plan Emerges

Congressman Jeff Van Drew will tour storm-damaged beaches in Cape May County with federal officials and local mayors following the introduction of bipartisan legislation to create a permanent $1 billion annual federal funding source for beach replenishment projects. The proposed Coastal Trust Fund Act would use offshore energy lease revenue to support long-term coastal protection efforts. The tour comes after significant erosion from Hurricane Erin and other storms left multiple South Jersey shore towns seeking emergency funding to restore beaches and dunes critical to storm defense and tourism.
The Wild Resort Targets Early Summer Debut at 3000 Boardwalk

Construction is steadily progressing on The Wild Resort, a new 77,000-square-foot luxury hotel development located at 3000 Boardwalk in Wildwood, between Morey’s two main amusement piers. Now in its mid-construction phase, the five-story project remains on schedule for a late spring to early summer 2026 opening, positioning it to debut in time for the busy shore season. The resort will feature 75 guest rooms, including 10 presidential suites equipped with private outdoor jacuzzis overlooking the beach. Designed to reflect coastal elegance and modern comfort, the property will also include a rooftop pool, restaurant and bar with sweeping ocean and boardwalk views. Ground-floor amenities are set to include a full-service Starbucks, an It’s Sugar candy store and a family-owned pizzeria, along with a fitness center and gift shop. Developers say the building’s vertical layout is intended to maximize natural light and ocean views throughout the property, adding a new upscale lodging option to Wildwood’s iconic boardwalk.

Answer to the February 11th Trivia Question
What historic feature can still be seen at Sunset Beach in Cape May, New Jersey?
A) The remains of a World War II bunker
B) A Victorian-era carousel
C) The sunken concrete ship S.S. Atlantus
D) The original Congress Hall hotel
Answer: C) The sunken concrete ship S.S. Atlantus
The S.S. Atlantus, a World War I-era concrete ship, sank off the coast of Cape May in 1926 and its remains are still visible from Sunset Beach. This ship was part of an experimental program to create durable concrete ships, but it met its fate during a storm while being used to create a ferry dock.
