Cape May MAC Auction Nears Close, Featuring Getaways, Dining and Unique Experiences

Anyone familiar with our town knows that the mission of Cape May MAC is to preserve the region’s historic landmarks, promote Victorian heritage, support the performing arts, and provide educational outreach. One of the best ways to support Cape May MAC, is through their annual online auction which closes Monday, March 2 at 10 a.m. The fundraiser offers a wide variety of distinctive items and experiences, with all proceeds directly supporting the organization’s general operations and year-round programming. Cape May MAC relies heavily on community engagement and earned revenue, with more than 90 percent of its annual budget generated through ticket sales, memberships, and donations. The organization employs over 200 full- and part-time staff members and operates throughout the year, offering a diverse lineup of programs and attractions. These include tours of the historic Emlen Physick Estate, the Cape May Lighthouse, and the World War II Lookout Tower, as well as trolley tours, private property tours, and numerous seasonal and special events. The organization’s impact extends well beyond its programs. Cape May MAC’s activities contribute more than $200 million annually to the local economy, with more than half of that economic benefit occurring during the shoulder seasons. This steady flow of visitors helps sustain businesses and jobs throughout the year.
Cape May, Ocean and Monmouth Appeal New Elevation Mandates

Cape May County has joined Ocean and Monmouth counties in filing a legal challenge against New Jersey’s newly enacted PACT/REAL regulations, which are designed to strengthen flood protections in response to rising sea levels and chronic coastal flooding. The rules, adopted by the state Department of Environmental Protection and effective as of January, raise building elevation requirements, expand flood hazard zones and impose stricter construction standards — changes that heavily impact shore communities. County officials argue that while they support efforts to protect coastal residents from flooding, the regulations go too far. The lawsuit contends that the DEP exceeded its legal authority, adopted the rules through an improper administrative process and imposed arbitrary and unfunded mandates that could strain homeowners, municipalities and local economies. Leaders in the three counties say the requirements could make home construction more expensive, complicate redevelopment and interfere with housing obligations. All 16 municipalities in Cape May County have formally opposed the rules, and officials are sharing legal costs through a regional agreement as the case moves forward in state Superior Court. Meanwhile, some towns are adjusting local zoning laws to comply with the state mandates. In Ocean City, for example, officials approved a zoning change allowing additional building height to offset the new two-foot elevation requirement for base flood levels, aiming to preserve interior living space while meeting state standards.
Wildwoods to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day With Two Weekends of Festivities

The Wildwoods will mark St. Patrick’s Day with two full weekends of festivities on March 7 and March 14, offering a mix of social gatherings, religious observance, and a traditional parade. The celebration begins March 7 with the Shamrock Shuttle, a free transportation service running from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. between participating restaurants and bars in Wildwood and North Wildwood. Throughout the day, venues will feature themed drink and food specials, creating a lively pub-crawl atmosphere across the island. The second weekend of events on March 14 opens with a 10 a.m. Catholic Mass at St. Ann’s Church in Wildwood, followed by a noon ceremony at 2nd and Olde New Jersey Avenue in North Wildwood. Immediately after, the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off, traveling north to Spruce Avenue. The parade will showcase veterans groups, Irish heritage organizations, community representatives, and local school bands. Hosted by the Anglesea Irish Society, the festivities are free and open to the public, celebrating Irish culture and community spirit in the Wildwoods.
