North Wildwood Boardwalk Rebuild Nears Completion Ahead of Spring Season

North Wildwood’s major boardwalk reconstruction project from 25th Street heading south is rapidly approaching completion as spring weather arrives at the Jersey Shore. Unlike neighboring Wildwood’s recent surface-level rehabilitation, this project involved a full demolition of the aging structure down to the sand, including the removal of old concrete supports. Crews installed brand-new wood pilings, crossbeams, and completely new decking, marking a comprehensive ground-up rebuild. Aerial views show the top decking fully installed, signaling a significant milestone. While the main structure is in place, finishing work continues, including new ramps near 25th Street, railings, steps at 26th Street, additional beach access points, and light posts. The project remains on schedule for completion in time for Easter and the anticipated busy spring season.
Shore Medical Center Offering Free Lung Cancer Screenings

Shore Medical Center will host free lung cancer screening consultations on Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Shore Cancer Center in Somers Point as part of Lung Cancer Awareness Month. The initiative is aimed at improving early detection of lung cancer, which remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. During the event, participants will receive a personalized risk assessment conducted by a provider from Shore Physicians Group to determine their eligibility for a Low Dose CT scan (LDCT), a screening tool proven to detect lung cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages. Individuals who qualify will be scheduled for a free LDCT scan at Advanced Shore Imaging Associates in Northfield at a later date. The screenings are recommended for adults ages 50 to 80 who are current smokers or who have quit within the past 15 years and have a significant smoking history. Both the consultation and the LDCT scan, if eligible, will be provided at no cost. Appointments are required, and space is limited.
Growing Waitlist as Wildwood Crest Halts New Beach Box Purchases

Wildwood Crest will not add new beach boxes for the 2026 summer season due to budget constraints and rising municipal costs. The popular program, which began in 2019 with 150 units, generates about $200,000 annually but now faces a growing waitlist. Similar programs operate in neighboring Wildwood and Cape May. The Wildwood Crest boxes are produced through Deptcor, a manufacturing initiative operated by the New Jersey Department of Corrections. The program employs eligible state inmates to manufacture goods including furniture and clothing, and has also produced lifeguard stands used throughout Cape May County. Officials plan to purchase 50 additional boxes over the next two years, beginning with 25 in 2027. Rental rates have increased to about $500 for the upcoming season.
Which Cape May landmark was initially constructed in 1859 and remains one of the most iconic symbols of the city, standing at 157 feet tall? |
Answer to the March 1st Trivia Question
Cape May is home to what unique natural phenomenon where visitors can witness the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean, which is typically seen only on the west coast?
A) The Green Flash
B) Sunset Beach
C) Cape May Point
