North Wildwood Boardwalk Rebuild Nears Completion Ahead of Spring Season

The City of Cape May officially launched sales for its 2026 beach tags back in December, offering both commemorative and seasonal options ahead of the summer season. A limited number of 2026 commemorative beach tags are now available for in-person purchase only. The first 500 commemorative tags are priced at $50 each. The preseason seasonal beach tags are on sale for $30 but the deadline to take advantage of the discount is April 30! The seasonal rate applies to beachgoers age 12 and older, while children 11 and under may access the beach free of charge. Officials note that all sales are final, and refunds will not be issued, including in cases of beach closures due to inclement weather. Beach tags are required for use of ADA-accessible beach mats between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Residents and visitors can purchase tags in person at Cape May City Hall’s Tax Office, located at 643 Washington Street. Sales began December 1, 2025, and are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., excluding holidays. In-person purchases are limited to cash or personal check. For added convenience, the city has partnered with Jersey Cape Tags to offer 2026 seasonal beach tags online. Tags purchased digitally are official and valid for the full 2026 summer season. A convenience fee of 5.8% plus $0.60 per tag is included in the listed online price, and shipping costs are calculated at checkout. The discounted preseason rate applies to online purchases made before May 1.

Coastal Care 101: Maintaining Lawns and Interiors at the Jersey Shore

Some maintenance tips to consider as we contemplate the recent failure of the ‘Bubble’ to protect us from last week’s storm. Weather aside, owning a home at the Jersey Shore requires a proactive maintenance approach due to the region’s coastal conditions, including salt air, sandy soil, fluctuating humidity, and seasonal occupancy. These environmental factors place added stress on both exterior landscaping and interior living spaces, making consistent upkeep essential to preserving property value and comfort. Coastal lawns, particularly those made up of cool-season grasses like tall fescue, require specialized care. Sandy soil drains quickly but struggles to retain nutrients, while salt exposure and heavy summer foot traffic can weaken turf. Without proper weed control, invasive plants compete for water and nutrients, thinning grass and increasing erosion risks. Targeted treatments, proper mowing height, fertilization, and aeration help maintain a dense, resilient lawn that stabilizes soil and improves drainage during heavy storms. Salt carried by sea spray also impacts exterior materials, contributing to corrosion and plant stress. Regular inspections, balanced irrigation to flush salt from soil, and integrated turf management strategies are key to protecting outdoor spaces and maintaining curb appeal — particularly in seasonal rental markets where first impressions matter. Inside the home, humidity control is critical, especially in properties left vacant during winter. Moisture buildup can lead to musty odors, mildew growth, and fabric deterioration. Proper ventilation, dehumidification, and laundering of stored bedding and towels help keep interiors fresh and comfortable. Selecting effective laundry products and routinely airing out spaces before peak season ensures the home feels welcoming rather than dormant. Ultimately, seasonal preparation — from early weed management and lawn inspections to refreshing linens and power washing decks — helps shore homes remain both inviting and structurally sound. Consistent, preventive care not only reduces the likelihood of costly repairs but also enhances the overall lifestyle experience, allowing families and guests to fully enjoy coastal living year after year.
