Lucky Player Wins Big with $576K Scratch-Off in Villas

A routine stop at a Wawa in Cape May County turned into a life-changing moment for one lucky lottery player last week. According to the New Jersey Lottery, a winning ticket worth $576,800 was sold at the Wawa on Bayshore Road in the Villas on February 26. The prize came from the popular 100X scratch-off game, instantly transforming an ordinary visit into a major windfall. While it’s unclear what else the winner may have purchased during the visit, the stop proved far more profitable than a typical convenience store run. Even after accounting for an estimated 40 percent in taxes, the winner would still walk away with a substantial sum — enough to buy tens of thousands of cups of Wawa coffee over a lifetime.

Drivers Question Bright Lights on New AC Expressway E-Z Pass Gantries

Drivers who regularly travel between South Jersey and Philadelphia are voicing concerns about the brightness of the new all-electronic E-ZPass tolling system on the Atlantic City Expressway. The recently installed overhead gantries, (I never would have guessed ‘gantries’) which replaced traditional toll booths, span the highway at 11 different points along the route. While the system allows motorists to drive through without stopping, some say the powerful lighting mounted on the steel structures creates intense glare during nighttime travel. Several drivers report that the brightness can be distracting and, in some cases, temporarily affect visibility after passing beneath the gantries. Those making late-night trips say the repeated exposure to the lights across the length of the expressway can make the commute uncomfortable. As a result, some motorists are calling on E-ZPass officials to evaluate whether the lighting can be adjusted or dimmed to improve nighttime driving conditions while maintaining the efficiency of the cashless toll system.
