Inn of Cape May to Host Special 45th Anniversary Showing of Slasher Film ‘The Prowler’

On Set Cinema will present a special 45th anniversary screening of the cult horror film The Prowler on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the historic Inn of Cape May. The Victorian-era inn, built in 1894, served as a primary filming location for the 1980 slasher, including its graduation dance scenes, dorm interiors, and the recognizable staircase featured in the movie. Over the years, the film has developed a devoted following among horror fans. The event begins with check-in at 7:30 p.m., followed by the screening at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $40 and include access to a private event space inside the inn, themed refreshments such as punch and cake, and discounted lodging for guests who wish to stay overnight. Sponsored by CapeMay.com, the evening offers fans a rare opportunity to watch the film in the very location where it was originally shot.

‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Rock Opera Coming to Gateway Playhouse in April

Gateway Playhouse in Somers Point will present Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s legendary rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar from April 9 through April 19. Directed by Chip Garrison, the production offers a high-energy retelling of the final days of Jesus Christ through a powerful rock score and emotionally driven storytelling. The musical features several well-known songs including “Superstar,” “Heaven on Their Minds,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” “Everything’s Alright,” and “What’s the Buzz?”—songs that helped make the show one of the most influential rock operas in theater history. Garrison, who first experienced the story through the 1974 film adaptation, brings a personal connection and creative approach to the Gateway production. One of the unique elements of this staging is the decision to cast the role of Judas as a woman, adding a new dynamic to the relationships between Jesus, Judas, and Mary Magdalene. The choice introduces a deeper emotional tension while still fitting the demanding vocal style required for the role. The show will feature two rotating casts performing across two weekends. Coby Alavez and Andrew Clare will share the role of Jesus, Danielle Cordivari and Gemma Schleper will portray Mary Magdalene, and Alaina Famularo and Julie Byrne will take on the role of Judas. Performances will take place at 7 p.m. April 9–11 and April 16–18, with matinee shows at 2 p.m. on April 12 and April 19. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at GatewayByTheBay.org or at the Karen S. Sutherland Box Office. Gateway Playhouse, located at 738 Bay Avenue in Somers Point, has operated as a nonprofit community theater since reopening in 2017, offering year-round entertainment and educational opportunities for local students and aspiring performers.
