Issue #623

Adventures led by women designed to make a difference.
Imagine a vacation that’s not only transformative for you but helps open doors for the local women you meet along the way. That’s what Intrepid’s new Women’s Expeditions in Peru, Cambodia and Bhutan are all about.
Designed specifically for women travellers, these trips offer immersive local experiences that support women-run and owned businesses in each destination. With an expert local leader out front, you could trek the lesser-known Chinchero to Urquillos route in the Peruvian Andes alongside an all-female crew, dive into Cambodia’s street food scene on a women-run tuk tuk tour, or unwind with a traditional herbal hot stone bath at a women-owned farmhouse in Bhutan.
First launched in 2018, Intrepid’s Women’s Expedition range is designed to break down barriers, foster discussion and create meaningful connections for travellers and locals alike.

Cape May Mayor Zack Mullock Secures Home County Support for Congressional Bid

Cape May County Democrats voted to endorse Cape May Mayor Zack Mullock in the Democratic primary for New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District. The endorsement was decided during a county committee meeting using a voice vote, meaning no official vote totals were recorded. Mullock is competing against several other Democratic candidates, including Tim Alexander, Bayly Winder, and Terri Reese, all from Atlantic County. The eventual Democratic nominee will challenge Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew in the general election in a district that has leaned Republican in recent years. The endorsement drew criticism from at least one opponent who questioned the process. During the same meeting, county Democrats also endorsed U.S. Senator Cory Booker for reelection and backed Eric Morey and David Temple for county commissioner seats. The decision represents a change from the 2024 congressional primary, when the county party chose not to endorse any candidate.
Cape May County Introduces 2026 Budget With Slight Tax Rate Decrease

Cape May County commissioners introduced a proposed $223.3 million budget for 2026 that would slightly reduce the county tax rate while maintaining funding for major services and infrastructure projects. The spending plan is about $943,000 lower than the 2025 budget and includes a tax rate reduction of 0.009. Officials say the decrease is possible because the county’s property values increased significantly, pushing the net ratable valuation to $104.7 billion. The budget allocates funding for infrastructure improvements, education programs, and new homelessness initiatives, while also maintaining stable debt levels and increasing the county surplus by $1.8 million. The proposal will undergo further review before commissioners consider final adoption later this spring.
Grocery Outlet Restructuring Will Close Rio Grande Store in Cape May County

Grocery Outlet Holding Corp. has announced that its Rio Grande, New Jersey location will close as part of a nationwide effort to shut down 36 underperforming stores. The decision is tied to the company’s new “Optimization Plan,” which aims to improve profitability, streamline operations, and strengthen long-term financial performance. The Rio Grande store, located in the Grande Shopping Center on Route 9, opened during Grocery Outlet’s expansion into East Coast markets. The building previously operated as the Joy Buffet before being converted into the discount grocery store. Grocery Outlet reported revenue growth in fiscal year 2025, reaching $4.69 billion in net sales, but the company still posted a net loss of $224.9 million. As part of its restructuring, the company plans to refocus resources on stronger-performing stores while continuing measured expansion. At the end of the fourth quarter, Grocery Outlet operated 570 stores across 16 states.
