Cape May Airport’s Flight Deck Diner Permanently Closes After Costly Cold-Weather Damage

A longtime dining destination at Cape May Airport has shut its doors permanently after severe water damage left the building facing millions of dollars in repairs. Flight Deck Diner in Lower Township, a popular breakfast and lunch spot for both locals and visitors, announced Friday that it would not reopen. The closure follows extensive damage caused by a failure in an aging fire suppression system during a stretch of extreme cold earlier this year.  The problem first emerged in early February when a pipe burst inside the former airport terminal building where the diner operated. Engineering assessments later determined that the building suffered significant structural and electrical issues. Repair costs were estimated to reach into the millions of dollars, leading the landlord to terminate the restaurant’s lease rather than undertake the extensive reconstruction. Following the closure announcement, an outpouring of support from the community quickly appeared online, with hundreds of customers expressing appreciation for the restaurant and the memories made there. Owner Chrissy McMullan expressed gratitude to loyal patrons who supported the diner for more than a decade and to the staff members who remained patient during the uncertain weeks following the building damage. Efforts are now underway to help former employees find new opportunities, with the owner encouraging local businesses to reach out if they have openings for restaurant staff such as cooks, dishwashers, servers, hosts, or bussers.

Ocean City Music Pier Announces New Summer Shows Featuring Bruce Hornsby and The Outlaws

Ocean City has added two more major performances to its 2026 Summer Concert Series at the Ocean City Music Pier. Grammy-winning pianist and songwriter Bruce Hornsby will perform on July 27 as part of his Indigo Park Tour, featuring a mix of well-known hits and newer material from his long career spanning rock, jazz, and bluegrass influences. The series will also feature Southern rock band The Outlaws on August 10, joined by Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel, whose performance will combine original music with songs inspired by the Allman Brothers tradition. Tickets for both shows go on sale Friday, March 6 at 10 a.m. through etix.com, with special presale opportunities available earlier in the week. The concerts join a lineup that already includes Straight No Chaser (June 29), TUSK: The Classic Fleetwood Mac Tribute (July 13), Judy Collins and Richard Thompson (July 20), and the Indigo Girls (August 17). The annual series brings a variety of well-known artists to Ocean City, with most performances scheduled for Monday evenings at the Music Pier during the summer season.

Lower Cape May Star Chase Hansen Becomes Winningest Wrestler in NJ History

Lower Cape May senior Chase Hansen became the winningest wrestler in New Jersey high school history Thursday night during the NJSIAA State Wrestling Championships at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Hansen earned his 176th career victory with a 4–2 decision over Pingry’s Jack Abramson in the 138-pound pre-quarterfinal round, surpassing the previous record held by former Bound Brook standout Andrew Campolattano. The milestone marks the culmination of four highly successful seasons for Hansen, who has been one of the most consistent wrestlers in the state. During his high school career he has captured four district championships and four region titles while regularly advancing deep into major tournaments. His durability and ability to compete at a high level throughout multiple seasons helped him accumulate wins at a historic pace. The Rider University commit reached the record in dramatic fashion. After falling behind late in the match, a penalty against his opponent tied the score before Hansen secured a decisive reversal with less than 30 seconds remaining to seal the win. Now holding the state’s all-time wins record, Hansen continues his run in the tournament with the ultimate goal of capturing his first state championship and ending his historic high school career on top of the podium.
