Travel Website World Atlas calls Courthouse one of The Most Underrated Towns In New Jersey

In a recent article the travel website World Atlas took a look at some of New Jersey’ Hidden gems.  Some of our underrated small towns stand out for their Revolutionary War history and remarkable scenery near Delaware Water Gap and the Middle Delaware, the East’s longest undammed river. Frenchtown and Lambertville make that especially clear, since both sit along the Delaware River and have great outdoor access, from the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail in Frenchtown to Lambertville’s Goat Hill Overlook Trailhead. Haddonfield adds a very different kind of landmark appeal, with the Hadrosaurus foulkii statue and excavation site marking the place where the first nearly complete dinosaur skeleton found in North America came to light. There’s a lot to see and do in New Jersey, and the eight towns below show just how much small-town character the state packs into a relatively compact map. Often overlooked is Cape May Court House, located inland from the bustling beaches of Cape May, is a less commercialized alternative to New Jersey’s more popular coastal destinations. Cape May Court House is a historic, unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Middle Township in Cape May County, New Jersey. Serving as the county seat, it is a centrally located residential area with a population of approximately 5,600. In Cape May Court House, you'll find a variety of local shops, antique stores, and dining options that showcase regional flavors, especially fresh seafood caught nearby. The area emphasizes supporting local agriculture, with nearby farms and vineyards offering fresh produce and seasonal farmers’ markets where visitors can taste local products. If you're interested in wine, small local vineyards like Jessie Creek Winery have become increasingly popular in 2026. You can also join guided tours this summer with Day Sipper Wine and Brew Tours. The historical centerpiece of the area is the ornate 1920s-era Cape May County Courthouse (the clear inspiration for the community's name), and for a deeper dive into history, the historic John Holmes House offers a glimpse into colonial life through its collections of artifacts and available local tours. The region is also home to the Cape May County Museum and the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge as well as the Cape May County Park & Zoo, a well-maintained, free-admission zoo with over 500 animals and expansive park grounds ideal for picnics and nature walks, a nice, budget-friendly option for today's economy.

New Jersey to Replace E-ZPass Transponders With Low-Cost Sticker Tags

New Jersey is preparing to modernize its E-ZPass toll system by replacing traditional windshield-mounted transponders with smaller, battery-free RFID sticker tags. The transition is still in its early stages, but officials suggest the new system could begin rolling out by late 2026. The move is aimed at cutting long-term costs, as current transponders require full replacement every 8–10 years due to battery depletion, costing the state millions. The new stickers will be significantly cheaper—costing less than a dollar compared to the current $10 deposit for transponders—but they come with a key limitation: they cannot be transferred between vehicles (not that we did that anyway!). Removing a sticker will damage its internal chip, meaning drivers will need to purchase separate tags for each car. Despite this trade-off, the new system is expected to streamline toll collection and maintain the convenience of cashless travel across major New Jersey roadways like the Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.

ICE Agents Deployed to JFK and Newark Amid TSA Staffing Crisis

Federal officials have deployed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to major airports, including John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport, in response to growing travel disruptions and staffing shortages within the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The shortages stem in part from missed paychecks tied to federal funding issues, leading to increased worker absences and unusually long security lines nationwide. The ICE agents role is limited to managing crowds, monitoring entry and exit points, and helping maintain order so TSA officers can focus on screening travelers. The decision to bring in ICE follows direction from President Donald Trump and has quickly sparked political backlash, with critics arguing the move fails to address the underlying staffing and funding problems affecting TSA operations. At the same time, airports across the region faced additional disruptions. Newark Airport temporarily halted flights after smoke was reported in an air traffic control tower, impacting hundreds of flights before normal operations resumed. At LaGuardia Airport, a far more severe incident occurred when an aircraft collided with an emergency vehicle on the runway, resulting in fatalities, multiple injuries, and widespread flight cancellations. Not all airports are experiencing the same conditions. Atlantic City International Airport has avoided both the ICE deployment and the long security lines seen elsewhere because its screening operations are handled by a private security contractor rather than TSA. It is one of about 20 airports nationwide that use private security under federal oversight, and the only one in New Jersey with this setup.
