Fan-Favorite Capybaras Depart Cape May Zoo as Part of Survival Program

Cape May County Zoo has said goodbye to two of its most popular animals, capybaras Gouda and Brie, who captured widespread attention both in person and across social media. The pair became standout attractions thanks to their relaxed personalities and entertaining behavior, helping draw increased interest to the zoo’s capybara exhibit. Their relocation was carefully planned and tied to their growth and development. After reaching about 20 pounds and becoming fully weaned, they were moved through a coordinated Species Survival Plan, a program used by accredited zoos to responsibly manage animal populations and support long-term conservation goals. Zoo staff took steps to ensure the transition was smooth, including training the capybaras to enter travel crates and sharing detailed care information with their new facilities. Brie has since arrived at the Nashville Zoo, where she is already gaining attention, while Gouda has been placed at another accredited zoo. Although their departure marks an emotional moment for fans who followed their early lives, zoo officials emphasize that the move plays an important role in protecting the species and maintaining healthy populations.

Some of the most popular destinations include Columbus Farmers Market, known for its massive outdoor layout and wide range of vendors, and Englishtown Auction Sales, which combines a traditional flea market with live auctions that add excitement for shoppers. The New Meadowlands Market, located near MetLife Stadium, stands out for its huge crowds and diverse merchandise, from clothing and electronics to handmade goods. Other longtime favorites include Berlin Farmers Market, which blends fresh farm products with flea market shopping, and Collingwood Auction & Flea Market, where visitors can browse vendor booths while also participating in live auctions. Antique enthusiasts often visit the Golden Nugget Antique Flea Market in Lambertville, a destination known for high-quality antiques and vintage collectibles. New Egypt Flea Market Village features hundreds of vendors selling antiques, crafts, and collectibles, while the Manahawkin Flea Market provides a seasonal outdoor market near the Jersey Shore. The list is rounded out by the Avenel Flea Market, an indoor market with a wide selection of clothing, electronics, and household goods. April Night Sky Packed With Pink Moon, Meteor Shower, and Planetary Views

April is shaping up to be an exciting month for skywatchers, with a series of celestial events offering plenty of reasons to look up. Leading the lineup is the Pink Moon, the first full moon of spring, which will reach peak illumination on April 1 at 10:12 p.m. EDT. Although its name suggests otherwise, the moon will not appear pink. The title comes from seasonal traditions tied to the blooming of early spring wildflowers, particularly pink phlox. The full moon will be visible beginning March 31 and will appear nearly complete for several nights. Its visibility will be enhanced this year by its alignment with perigee, meaning it will appear slightly larger and brighter than usual. Beyond the full moon, April offers additional astronomical highlights. On April 3, Mercury will reach its greatest western elongation, making it easier to spot in the early morning sky just before sunrise, low along the eastern horizon. Midmonth brings a new moon on April 17, creating darker skies ideal for stargazing and observing faint celestial objects. Later in the month, the annual Lyrid meteor shower will peak overnight on April 21 into the early hours of April 22. Under favorable conditions, viewers may see around 18 meteors per hour as Earth passes through debris left behind by Comet Thatcher. Together, these events make April a standout month for both casual observers and dedicated astronomy enthusiasts.
