Flight Deck Diner’s Iconic Patch Wall Finds New Home at Aviation Museum

A cherished piece of local history is being preserved following the closure of the Flight Deck Diner at Cape May Airport. The diner’s well-known “patch wall,” a collection built over 16 years, has officially been relocated to the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum. The museum, a longtime neighbor of the diner, stepped in to ensure the extensive display of law enforcement and military patches remains accessible to the public. The collection, contributed by customers over the years, reflects a deep connection between the diner and the broader service community. The diner’s closure in March 2026 came after severe winter conditions caused a significant failure in its aging fire suppression system. The resulting damage required extensive and costly repairs, ultimately forcing the business to shut its doors permanently. By housing the patch wall, the museum is preserving not only a visual tribute to service members and first responders but also a meaningful part of the airport’s community identity. Located in Hangar No. 1 at Cape May Airport, the museum continues to serve visitors daily with a wide range of aviation exhibits and interactive displays.
