Community and Coast Guard to Gather for Annual SNJ Coast Guard Ball

The Southern New Jersey Coast Guard Ball will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Wildwoods Convention Center, bringing together community members and active-duty service members for an evening honoring the United States Coast Guard. Presented by the Cape May County Coast Guard Community Foundation, the annual event celebrates the strong connection between the Coast Guard and the surrounding community. The formal or black-tie optional gathering blends traditional military ceremony with a night of entertainment and celebration. The evening will run from 6 to 11 p.m. and begin with a cocktail reception before transitioning into a formal program. The program includes traditional elements such as a Remembrance Table Ceremony, remarks from representatives of the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, keynote speakers, and formal toasts recognizing all branches of the military. Previous events have also featured performances by the United States Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard. Following the formal portion of the program, the event shifts into a celebratory atmosphere with dinner, music, and dancing. Entertainment for the evening will include music by local favorite DJ Denny Oh, along with professional photography and other activities for guests. Each ticket includes dinner and two drinks, along with access to the full evening of programming and entertainment. Organizers describe the event as an opportunity to experience military traditions while celebrating alongside Coast Guard members, local leaders, and residents who support the region’s designation as an official Coast Guard Community. Tickets for the event are currently available at coastguardcommunity.org.

Gas Prices Jump Nearly $1 in a Month, More Increases Expected

Gas prices across South Jersey have surged dramatically in recent weeks, with premium fuel already exceeding $5 per gallon at some stations in Atlantic County. This marks a sharp increase from just a month ago, when prices were below $3 per gallon, reflecting one of the fastest spikes in recent memory. The surge is being driven largely by a significant jump in global oil prices, which rose more than 10 percent in a single day, along with ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting supply. Additional factors, including seasonal fuel blend changes and a recent increase in New Jersey’s gas tax, are also contributing to higher costs at the pump. Experts warn that regular gas may soon approach or surpass the $5 mark if current trends hold. The rising cost of fuel is placing increased financial pressure on South Jersey residents, many of whom rely heavily on driving for commuting and daily errands. In response, experts recommend adopting fuel-saving habits such as driving at steady speeds, reducing idling, and combining trips to help offset the growing expense. With no immediate relief in sight, analysts expect elevated gas prices to persist in the coming weeks, potentially impacting household budgets and broader economic activity in the region.

Ocean City Boardwalk Reopens After $4.9M Overhaul and Major Upgrades

Ocean City’s boardwalk has fully reopened after a major, state-funded reconstruction project that repaired structural issues, improved safety, and added new amenities. Backed by a $4.9 million grant, the work included rebuilding key sections, reinforcing others, and enhancing accessibility with ADA ramps, restrooms, and shaded pavilions. Completed ahead of schedule, the project restores the full 2.5-mile boardwalk just in time for the tourism season. Additional upgrades, including modern lighting, are still on the way as part of a broader, ongoing effort to strengthen and modernize the boardwalk for long-term use.
