Cape May to Celebrate History with Liberty Tree Dedication Ceremony
Issue #655

Adventures led by women, designed to make a difference.
Imagine a vacation that’s not only transformative for you but helps open doors for the local women you meet along the way. That’s what Intrepid’s new Women’s Expeditions in Peru, Cambodia and Bhutan are all about.
Designed specifically for women travellers, these trips offer immersive local experiences that support women-run and owned businesses in each destination. With an expert local leader out front, you could trek the lesser-known Chinchero to Urquillos route in the Peruvian Andes alongside an all-female crew, dive into Cambodia’s street food scene on a women-run tuk tuk tour, or unwind with a traditional herbal hot stone bath at a women-owned farmhouse in Bhutan.
First launched in 2018, Intrepid’s Women’s Expedition range is designed to break down barriers, foster discussion and create meaningful connections for travellers and locals alike.

Cape May to Celebrate History with Liberty Tree Dedication Ceremony

Cape May will mark a significant moment in its history with a Liberty Tree Dedication ceremony at Lafayette Street Park on Friday, April 24 at 11 a.m. The event invites residents, local leaders, and visitors to gather in recognition of the city’s deep historical roots and its connection to the broader story of American independence. At the center of the ceremony is the planting and dedication of a symbolic tree representing freedom, resilience, and continued growth. The dedication coincides with two major milestones: Cape May’s 175th anniversary and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States. Organizers say the ceremony is intended to both honor the past and inspire future generations to reflect on the enduring ideals that shaped the nation. The Liberty Tree holds strong historical significance, tracing back to colonial Boston, where it became a rallying point for protest against British rule prior to the American Revolution. The modern dedication is part of a nationwide initiative to plant 250 Liberty Trees ahead of the country’s semiquincentennial celebration in 2026. The ceremony is free and open to the public, offering an opportunity for the community to come together in a shared moment of remembrance and celebration.
America 250 Celebration Brings High-Tech Light Displays to Ocean City Boardwalk

Ocean City is preparing to mark America’s 250th anniversary with a series of patriotic drone shows set to illuminate the skies above its beach and Boardwalk this summer. The event, titled “America 250: Lights Over Ocean City,” will feature hundreds of synchronized drones forming animated tributes to the nation. The displays will take place south of Sixth Street and run for about 15 minutes each, scheduled after dusk on seven consecutive Monday evenings from July 6 through August 17. Organizers aim to create a visually striking experience that can be enjoyed from both the beach and the Boardwalk. The initiative is supported by a $25,000 grant from the Cape May County Board of Commissioners, along with additional funding from the city and sponsorships provided by local Boardwalk businesses. County officials have encouraged municipalities to host commemorative events by offering matching grants for 250th anniversary celebrations. In addition to the weekly shows, a special kickoff event is planned for July 2 at Carey Stadium near Sixth Street. The evening will begin with a free patriotic concert by the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, followed by an inaugural drone performance.
Lawsuit Filed in Wildwood Beach Incident That Left Woman Seriously Injured

Annette Eld of Philadelphia is suing Wildwood and its police department after a 2024 incident in which a police truck ran over her while she was sunbathing. The lawsuit alleges negligence, citing lack of warning signals and possible driver distraction. The victim suffered severe physical injuries and ongoing trauma, while her child also experienced emotional distress. The officer involved received a short suspension, and the case seeks damages for long-term harm.
