Ribbon Cutting Set for Newly Renovated Cape May Beach Patrol Facility

The City of Cape May, in partnership with the Cape May Beach Patrol, is set to unveil newly upgraded headquarters with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for May 1 at 4 p.m. The event will take place at the Beach Patrol facility on Beach Avenue and marks the completion of a renovation project aimed at improving daily operations. The project focused on updating the existing structure without expanding its size, with construction handled by Marino General Construction. Improvements include newly designed locker rooms for both men and women, upgraded restroom facilities, and enhanced interior space to better support lifeguard operations. City officials say the upgrades are intended to strengthen the Beach Patrol’s ability to oversee and protect Cape May’s 2.5-mile coastline. The enhancements are expected to improve working conditions for staff while also supporting more efficient emergency response and public safety services. Residents and visitors are invited to attend the ceremony, which will formally introduce the updated facility and highlight the city’s investment in beach safety infrastructure.

The first 450 registered runners will receive a commemorative race T-shirt, while all finishers will take home a custom coin. Awards will be presented to top overall finishers as well as age-group winners, including a masters division for participants 55 and older.

“Goal Zero” Enforcement Nets Wanted Man in Cape May County

A traffic enforcement effort in Sea Isle City led to the arrest of a man wanted by authorities in Virginia. Local police were taking part in New Jersey’s “Goal Zero” initiative, a statewide campaign focused on reducing serious crashes through heightened enforcement, when a routine stop revealed the out-of-state warrant. During the operation, officers pulled over a vehicle and identified the driver as a 54-year-old resident of Cape May Court House. Further investigation showed he was wanted by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia. The man was taken into custody and transported to the Cape May County Jail, where he is being held pending an extradition hearing. He faces a charge related to being a fugitive from justice. Officials have not released details about the underlying case tied to the Virginia warrant. “Goal Zero” is designed to improve roadway safety by targeting violations such as speeding, impaired or distracted driving, and intersection infractions.
