Cape May County Zoo Hosts After-Hours “Critter Crawl” Event

An after-hours experience at the Cape May County Park & Zoo is offering visitors a rare chance to explore the grounds in a quieter, more relaxed setting. The “Critter Crawl,” scheduled for today from 6 to 8 p.m., invites guests to enjoy a self-guided evening walk through the zoo after it has closed to the public. Unlike traditional daytime visits, the event emphasizes a calm, crowd-free atmosphere, allowing attendees to observe animals during the quieter twilight hours. Throughout the zoo, educational stations will be staffed by keepers and volunteers, giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about the animals and their care. The event also serves a larger purpose beyond the visitor experience. Proceeds will support the Cape May County chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers, helping fund animal enrichment programs, professional development for staff, and conservation initiatives. Organizers say the evening is designed to combine education, conservation, and a unique viewing experience, offering a different perspective on one of the region’s most popular attractions.

Cape May Cares Hosts La Garage Reading to Benefit Youth Theater Camp

Cape May Cares is inviting the community to an afternoon of theater and philanthropy on Sunday, April 26, with a special staged reading of the new play La Garage at Cape May Stage. The event begins at 4 p.m. and blends storytelling with a mission to support youth arts education in the region. Set in the fall of 1978, the play follows a group of women navigating economic hardship and social challenges in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, as they search for stability and solidarity. The production highlights themes of survival, friendship, and personal strength, drawing inspiration from real-life experiences. Proceeds from the event will directly support the Cape May Cares All Star Theater Camp, a program designed to introduce local children to the world of theater. Through hands-on participation, students collaborate on staging a production, learning performance skills, teamwork, and creative expression in a supportive environment. Following the reading, attendees are invited to continue the evening at Elaine’s, where a reception will feature complimentary light fare and an open bar, offering an opportunity for guests to connect while supporting the cause.

“Bubbles for Autism Day” Brings Cape May Students Together in Support

In Cape May, hundreds of students from Maud Abrams and Sandman Schools gathered to celebrate “Bubbles for Autism Day” as part of Autism Acceptance Month. The event transformed school grounds into a sea of floating bubbles, symbolizing unity while encouraging messages of kindness, inclusion, and understanding for individuals on the autism spectrum. The initiative brought together students and staff in a shared effort to foster a more supportive and inclusive environment. By participating, students demonstrated solidarity with classmates on the spectrum and helped promote awareness in a positive, engaging way. The event also highlighted an important message centered on recognizing strengths and abilities rather than focusing on limitations. The celebration served as a reminder of the importance of acceptance and community support within schools and beyond.
