Morey’s Piers Announces Opening Weekend to Kick Off 2026 Season

Morey’s Piers is preparing to welcome visitors back, officially opening for the 2026 season from Friday, May 1 through Sunday, May 3. The opening weekend celebration will begin at Mariner’s Amusement Pier, located at Schellenger Avenue and the Boardwalk, where guests can once again enjoy rides, games, and classic boardwalk food. The launch marks the unofficial start of summer for many shoregoers, as families and visitors return to one of the region’s most recognizable attractions. Beyond opening weekend, a full calendar of events is scheduled throughout the season. Highlights include Morey’s Beach Jam at the end of May, youth sporting events such as the Cape Express Beach Blast Soccer tournament in June, a July flag football competition, and the annual Boardwalk Bier Run in September. While Mariner’s Pier will lead the initial reopening, additional piers and water parks are expected to follow later in May as operations expand. Officials note that hours may vary depending on weather and staffing conditions, particularly early in the season. The reopening signals the return of familiar boardwalk traditions in the Wildwoods (along with a new curfew), from amusement rides and seaside views to the lively atmosphere that draws visitors back year after year.
Cape May County Warns of Phone Scam Impersonating Sheriff’s Office

Cape May County officials are warning residents about a phone scam in which callers impersonate members of the Sheriff’s Office to pressure victims into making immediate payments. Authorities say the scheme is designed to create urgency and fear, often catching people off guard and, in some cases, leading to financial loss. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, victims receive calls claiming they have missed a court appearance or owe fines. The caller then threatens arrest unless payment is made right away. These demands are typically accompanied by instructions to pay through hard-to-trace methods such as gift cards, wire transfers, or prepaid debit cards. Officials stress that legitimate law enforcement agencies do not contact individuals by phone to demand payment or threaten arrest. They also do not request money through unconventional payment methods under any circumstances. Residents are urged to remain cautious and to end any suspicious calls immediately without providing personal or financial information. Authorities also encourage people to share the warning with others, particularly older adults who are often targeted by scams of this nature. Anyone who believes they may have been a victim is advised to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office. Officials emphasize that awareness and quick action are key to preventing further incidents.
NJ’s Jamie Ding Reaches 30 Straight Wins on “Jeopardy!”

A New Jersey resident (not exactly Cape May but it is New Jersey and who doesn’t watch Jeopardy?) is making history on “Jeopardy!” as Jamie Ding now a 31-time "Jeopardy!" champion, is closing in on the fourth-most wins all-time after another runaway victory. Ding has won $882,605 and is fifth all-time in victories, according to Jeopardy.com and TheJeopardyFan.com. He's one game behind the fourth-place champion, James Holzhauer, who won 32 games in 2019. The Lawrenceville native, who works as a policy and programs analyst and is currently pursuing a law degree, now ranks fifth in both total winnings and longest winning streak in the show’s history. The Princeton University graduate has drawn widespread attention for both his gameplay and personal story. A longtime learner with a background in molecular biology, Ding has worked in public service and continues his studies at Seton Hall University. His success has resonated with fans across the country, including prominent figures in New Jersey. Beyond the game, Ding is known for his wide-ranging interests, including a General Tso themed Instagram account he runs with his sister. His rapid rise on “Jeopardy!” has already guaranteed him a spot in the Tournament of Champions, with many now watching to see how far his streak can go.
