Cape May Coast Guard Training Center Set for $400 Million Expansion
Issue #673

The Electrification of Heavy Machinery Has a Ground Floor
Tesla did it to cars. Now the same shift is coming for excavators, forklifts, cranes, and military equipment. The difference is that nobody has owned this moment yet — until RISE Robotics.
Their technology strips hydraulics out of heavy machinery entirely and replaces it with a patented electric actuator. No fluid. Full digital control. Built for the autonomous machines that are coming whether the industry is ready or not. The Pentagon is already a customer.
Last Round Oversubscribed. $9.7M in revenue already on the board. Dylan Jovine of ‘Behind the Markets’ spotted it early. The Wefunder community round lets anyone invest alongside institutional backers.

Cape May Coast Guard Training Center Set for $400 Million Expansion

The U.S. Coast Guard has awarded a $400 million contract to begin the design and construction of new barracks and training facilities at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, advancing one of the largest military infrastructure projects in South Jersey history. The project has now entered the design-build phase, which will allow planners and contractors to finalize designs before construction begins. Congressman Jeff Van Drew announced the contract award Friday, calling it the single-largest federal investment ever made in the region. He said the project will modernize facilities used by thousands of Coast Guard recruits who begin their careers at the Cape May base each year. The Coast Guard Training Center, established in 1924, is the service’s only enlisted recruit training facility in the country. Officials say the new buildings will replace aging infrastructure with updated barracks and training spaces designed to better support recruits and improve daily operations at the base.
Wildwood Enforces Summer Bag Ban on Boardwalk Visitors

Wildwood, New Jersey has introduced a summer boardwalk bag policy banning backpacks and oversized bags from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Visitors may only carry small bags under eight inches deep. The city is also imposing new overnight boardwalk closures and earlier business shutdowns starting May 13 to reduce late-night disturbances and improve public safety. Bag restrictions are already common at sports stadiums, entertainment venues, and some waterparks where security screenings are standard practice. However, Wildwood’s updated regulations also include broader overnight controls for the boardwalk district. Beginning May 13, businesses along the boardwalk will be required to close by 1 a.m., while public access to the boardwalk itself will be prohibited between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. throughout the year. City leaders say the measures are intended to discourage loitering, limit large late-night crowds, and maintain a more family-friendly atmosphere during the busy tourism season while continuing to support local businesses.
Spirit Airlines on Brink of Liquidation Amid Failed Bailout Effort

Spirit Airlines is preparing to suspend operations as early as Saturday morning after failing to secure a major financial rescue package while navigating bankruptcy and mounting industry pressures. The ultra-low-cost carrier, known for its bright yellow planes and bare-bones pricing model, has struggled for years under the weight of rising fuel costs, intense competition from larger airlines, lingering effects from the pandemic, and costly aircraft engine issues. The airline had been in discussions with the Trump administration over a proposed $500 million government-backed rescue effort aimed at helping the company emerge from bankruptcy. Those negotiations reportedly stalled after key creditors objected to terms that would have allowed the federal government to take a dominant ownership position in the airline if the company later failed. President Donald Trump said the administration was still reviewing options for Spirit and suggested any agreement would need to prioritize taxpayer interests. Administration officials have reportedly questioned whether a bailout could realistically save the airline from liquidation. Industry analysts say the possible collapse of Spirit could reshape the budget travel market, particularly in Florida and Las Vegas, where the airline maintained a large presence. Supporters of a bailout, including labor unions, warn that thousands of jobs could disappear and airfare competition could decline significantly if the airline ceases operations. Spirit’s creditors have now reportedly urged the company to begin winding down operations, arguing that continued attempts to save the airline may no longer be financially viable.

Answer to the May1st Trivia Question
Cape May, New Jersey, is recognized as the oldest seaside resort in the United States. Which significant historical figure is the city named after?
A) Christopher Columbus
B) Henry Hudson
C) Cornelius Jacobsen Mey
D) John Cabot
Answer: C) Cornelius Jacobsen Mey
Cape May is named after the Dutch captain Cornelius Jacobsen Mey, who explored and charted the area between 1611 and 1614, establishing a claim for the province of New Netherlands. Cape May was originally named "Cape Mey.” The name was later changed due to a misspelling in the paperwork.
