Cape May-Lewes Ferry Announces New Fare Structure Starting June 1

Beginning June 1, the Cape May-Lewes Ferry will operate under a revised fare schedule approved by the Delaware River and Bay Authority aimed at reducing the ferry’s operating deficit while maintaining affordable family travel options. The new system introduces “staircase pricing” for vehicle reservations, meaning fares will gradually increase as vessel capacity reaches 50%, 75% and 90% booked. Travelers who reserve early will still receive the lowest available base fares, while later reservations may cost more during busy travel periods. Seasonal vehicle fares will increase between $2 and $6 depending on the time of year. Shuttle fares, reservation cancellation fees and “show-go” fees for motorists arriving without reservations will also rise by $2. At the same time, the authority expanded off-season savings for families by allowing children ages 6 to 13 to ride free from October through May. Officials said the revised fare structure is expected to generate approximately $1.5 million annually to offset operational expenses while continuing to encourage repeat travel, family bookings and advance reservations. The changes were approved unanimously by the DRBA Commissioners during an April meeting after a public comment process earlier this year. Travelers can view the full fare schedule and additional policy details at CMLF.com

Classic Broadway Musical ‘Guys and Dolls’ Opens at Gateway Playhouse

The Gateway Playhouse in Somers Point will bring the classic Broadway musical Guys and Dolls to the stage from May 28 through June 7, offering audiences a lively production filled with humor, romance and iconic songs. Widely regarded as one of Broadway’s most beloved musicals, Guys and Dolls features memorable tunes by Frank Loesser, including “Luck Be a Lady,” “A Bushel and a Peck,” “Adelaide’s Lament,” “If I Were a Bell” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat.” Set against the backdrop of New York City, the story follows gamblers, showgirls and missionaries whose lives become intertwined through unexpected relationships and personal growth. Gateway Playhouse Artistic Director Phil Pallitto, who is also directing the production, said the musical was selected for its ability to bring audiences together through comedy, warmth and relatable characters. While the story centers on colorful personalities involved in gambling and nightlife, the production also highlights themes of redemption, friendship and second chances. The show features two rotating casts led by Jefferson Heller and Eric Williams sharing the role of gambler Sky Masterson. Mason Naman and Nick Efstatos portray Nathan Detroit, while Erin Maegerle and Rue Way take on the role of Adelaide. Musical direction is provided by Debbie Roland, who also leads the live orchestra, while choreography for the production is handled by Karen Cleighton. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on May 28-30 and June 4-6, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on May 31 and June 7. Tickets are priced at $25 and are available through the Gateway Playhouse website and box office. The theater is located at 738 Bay Avenue in Somers Point.
