Issue #694

The GTM bets that shouldn't have worked, and did
One grew revenue 50x after half his team quit over the strategy. One brought in 50K signups in a single day with no paid budget. One generated 100M+ views from a stunt that took 50 hours to conceive. One asked every prospect to demo the product themselves instead of demoing it for them.
None of them followed the safe playbook. They treated GTM like an experiment, moved before they had proof, and made bets most founders would never get approved.
HubSpot for Startups documented all 6 stories in the free Bold Bets Playbook. The risks they took, why it was risky, and what it returned.

Cape May to Hold Annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony May 25

Cape May will honor the nation’s fallen service members during its annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Soldiers and Sailors Park. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the corner of Columbia Avenue and Gurney Street and serves as one of the city’s most meaningful Memorial Day traditions. Community members, veterans, local officials and visitors are expected to gather for the solemn observance. The program will include remarks from local leaders and veterans, followed by a procession to Gurney Street Beach. There, members of the United States Coast Guard will conduct a ceremonial rifle salute before a flower boat is launched into the ocean as a tribute to military personnel who lost their lives in service to the country. The annual remembrance ceremony highlights Cape May’s longstanding connection to military service and maritime tradition while offering residents and visitors an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces. Additional Memorial Day weekend events will also take place throughout Cape May. On Sunday evening, May 24, the Atlantic Brass Band will perform patriotic music at Rotary Park as part of the Cape May Music Festival. Sunset Beach will also resume its popular nightly flag ceremony over the holiday weekend, honoring a different veteran each evening throughout the summer season.
Cape May’s Annual Flotilla Ceremony Returns Memorial Day Weekend

Cape May will host a special Memorial Day weekend tradition on May 25, 2026, as the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary’s flower boat returns to Cove Beach for the annual Flotilla Ceremony. Following the ceremony, the decorated vessel will be moved to Cove Beach at the end of Beach Avenue, where it will remain on public display throughout the day. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the elaborate floral arrangements honoring military service members who lost their lives while serving the nation. Members of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 82-Cape May, will staff the display and provide information about the memorial tribute and the organization’s ongoing community and maritime safety efforts. The Flotilla Ceremony is a longstanding nautical tradition that brings together maritime symbolism and remembrance. While flotilla events can range from festive boat parades to large-scale commemorations, Cape May’s observance focuses on honoring fallen military personnel in a reflective waterfront setting. The free public event is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. at The Cove in Cape May.
