Revolution Rail Brings Visitors Through Cape May

Looking for a unique outdoor adventure during the Cape May Music Festival season? Add a rail bike excursion through one of South Jersey’s most scenic wildlife areas to their weekend plans. Revolution Rail Co. in Cape May offers guided rail bike rides along a four-mile stretch of inactive railroad tracks bordering The Nature Conservancy’s Garrett Family Preserve. The experience combines light outdoor activity, wildlife viewing and coastal scenery in an attraction designed for riders of nearly all ages and fitness levels. The custom-built rail bikes, which seat either two or four passengers, travel along historic tracks through salt marshes, wooded areas and wetlands near the Cape May Canal. Riders often spot herons, osprey, egrets, monarch butterflies and other native wildlife along the route. Tours last about 90 minutes and include a brief local history presentation and a short nature walk. The rail bikes are designed to glide easily along the tracks, making the outing accessible for families, grandparents and casual riders. In addition to daytime nature tours, Revolution Rail also offers evening twilight rides featuring sunset views and a stop for complimentary s’mores around a fire pit before returning under illuminated rail bikes. Located behind the Cape May Welcome Center at 609 Lafayette Street, the attraction operates seasonally, typically from Thursday through Sunday. Guests are encouraged to arrive early during busy summer weekends, particularly during popular Cape May festival events and holiday weekends. The rail bike excursions pair easily with other nearby attractions, including downtown shopping, local restaurants and the Harriet Tubman Museum of New Jersey. You’ve made it to the long weekend — now it’s time to make the most of it. Escape the crowds, get outside, and experience a one-of-a-kind rail biking adventure this Memorial Day Weekend. Don’t forget to ask for Jake!
Cape May Celebrates Historic ‘Trifecta Year’ With New Heritage Exhibition

Cape May is celebrating a landmark year in 2026 with a series of major anniversaries that spotlight the city’s rich history, coastal charm, and nationally recognized preservation efforts. Known for Victorian architecture, walkable downtown, and scenic beaches, our town is marking 175 years since its incorporation as a city. The celebration also coincides with the 50th anniversary of Cape May becoming the nation’s only city designated entirely as a National Historic Landmark, as well as America’s 250th birthday. City officials have dubbed 2026 the community’s “trifecta year,” bringing together milestones that underscore Cape May’s historic significance and enduring appeal as America’s first seaside resort. At the center of the celebration is the new Cape May: First & Only exhibition, now open inside the Carroll Gallery at the Emlen Physick Estate on Washington Street. Presented in partnership with Cape May MAC, the exhibit chronicles the city’s history from its 1851 incorporation through the present day. The display explores Cape May’s resilience through devastating storms, fires, and wartime challenges while also highlighting the preservation movement that protected more than 600 original Victorian-era buildings. Those preservation efforts helped secure Cape May’s unique designation as the only city in the United States recognized entirely as a National Historic Landmark. Tourism leaders say the exhibits are designed to give residents and visitors a deeper appreciation for the city’s heritage while encouraging more people to experience Cape May beyond its beaches and resorts. The free exhibition will remain open daily through Nov. 2, 2026, offering visitors an immersive look at one of America’s most historic shore communities.
