Cape May Businesses Team Up for Locals Night Ahead of Summer Season
Issue #697

The GTM bets that shouldn't have worked, and did
One grew revenue 50x after half his team quit over the strategy. One brought in 50K signups in a single day with no paid budget. One generated 100M+ views from a stunt that took 50 hours to conceive. One asked every prospect to demo the product themselves instead of demoing it for them.
None of them followed the safe playbook. They treated GTM like an experiment, moved before they had proof, and made bets most founders would never get approved.
HubSpot for Startups documented all 6 stories in the free Bold Bets Playbook. The risks they took, why it was risky, and what it returned.

Cape May Businesses Team Up for Locals Night Ahead of Summer Season

Cape May is preparing to welcome residents and visitors alike to Locals Night on the Washington Street Mall on Friday, May 29, 2026, offering an evening focused on community, shopping, dining, and entertainment ahead of the summer season. The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. along the Washington Street Mall in downtown Cape May. Participating businesses throughout the mall will feature special promotions, discounts, refreshments, and exclusive perks for attendees. Live entertainment will add to the festive atmosphere, with the Vernon Murphy Band performing on the 300 block of Washington Street and musician Gordon Vincent appearing on the 500 block. To encourage attendance and make visiting easier, the City of Cape May will suspend paid parking enforcement during the event hours. Organizers say the evening is designed as a celebration of the local community while giving residents an opportunity to support neighborhood businesses before the busy summer tourism season begins. Visitors are encouraged to stroll the mall, explore participating shops and restaurants, and discover new local favorites.
Signature Gala to Support Cape May Stage With Elegant Waterfront Evening

Cape May Stage is preparing for its annual Signature Gala fundraiser on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May, bringing together supporters of the arts for an evening of entertainment, dining, and community celebration. The event, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., is inspired by the signatures that shaped the nation 250 years ago and centers on the idea of leaving a lasting impact on history, community, and the arts. Organizers say the gala will celebrate both the past and the future while helping fund professional live theater productions and outreach programs in Cape May. Guests attending the waterfront event will enjoy a full evening featuring an elegant dinner, open bar, live musical entertainment, and a curated live auction showcasing exclusive experiences and specialty items. The gala will also serve as an unofficial kickoff to the summer season for many supporters and patrons of Cape May Stage. Attendees are encouraged to wear black or white semi-formal attire accented with red and blue in recognition of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration. Organizers announced that individual tickets and sponsorships for the Signature Gala have officially sold out. Those still interested in attending may contact Cape May Stage at 609-770-8311 to be placed on the event wait list. Cape May Stage officials noted that the Signature Gala remains one of the theater organization’s most important annual fundraising efforts, providing critical support for performances, educational programming, and community outreach initiatives throughout the year.
Cape May’s Beloved ‘Miss Anita’ Retires After 50 Years of Story Time

After spending five decades introducing young children to the joy of reading, Cape May’s beloved “Storybook Lady” is preparing to turn the page on an extraordinary career. Anita DeSatnick, known throughout the community as “Miss Anita,” is retiring after 50 years of leading children’s story time programs in Cape May. A former elementary school teacher, she began her signature library program in the mid-1970s and quickly became a cherished part of childhood for generations of local families. Through stories, songs, and gentle lessons, Miss Anita created a welcoming environment for preschool-aged children, helping countless young readers develop an early love for books and learning. Her story hours became a longstanding tradition for many families throughout Cape May County. Over the years, DeSatnick witnessed a full-circle moment many times as former story time attendees later returned with children and even grandchildren of their own. Her official “Farewell Storytime” is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., according to the Cape May County Library event calendar. Although Miss Anita’s retirement marks the end of a remarkable era, the Cape May County Library system confirmed that story time programs for children ages 0 to 5 will continue at local library branches. For many families in Cape May, Miss Anita’s influence stretches far beyond the pages of a storybook, leaving behind a lasting legacy built on kindness, imagination, and a lifelong appreciation for reading.
